The sixth match in the Super Four round of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 features India and Bangladesh. Rohit Sharma gave opportunities to the squad’s peripheral players in a dead match because the Men in Blue had already qualified for the summit match.
Notably, up to five substitutions were made, with Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Mohammed Siraj, and Virat Kohli taking rest days. A space in the playing lineup was found for Prasidh Krishna, Axar Patel, Mohammed Shami, and Suryakumar Yadav. Tilak Varma, meanwhile, received his ODI cap and started his batting debut at No. 3. At the R Premdasa Stadium in Colombo, captain Sharma made the decision to bowl first despite the various alterations.
In order to win, India needed 266 runs, but they got off to the worst possible start. Rohit, who started the innings alongside Shubman Gill, was dismissed after facing just two balls. Tilak joined Gill at the opposite end at three. He, too, struggled to get moving and crashed to the ground when Tanzim’s pearler was bowled.
Tanzim Hasan Sakib, a rookie bowler, delivered the ball exceptionally well to give Bangladesh an early advantage.
The Men in Blue were forced to struggle as a result of two quick wickets, giving the opposition the much-needed head start in defending the mark that their batters had set.
Bangladesh get reasonable results Despite a setback early on
Shakib Al Hasan was given the opportunity to bat first, but he and his team got off to a rough start when they lost Litton Das in the third over alone. Bangladesh’s situation deteriorated as they were left in disarray at 59/4 after 14 overs. But captain Shakib and Towhid Hridoy took matters into their own hands, putting up a 101-run stand to lead Bangladesh out of trouble.
Shakib added 51 runs while Towhid Hridoy added 80 runs in just 85 balls. Tanzim, Nasum Ahmed, and Mahedi Hasan all made significant cameos lower in the order, allowing the Bangla Tigers to amass significant runs and ultimately set the opposition a doable target of 266 runs.
