The Indians team has been named for the forthcoming ODI World Cup in 2023 by the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India).
It is important to note that on October 8 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, India will play their first World Cup match against Australia. India is the overwhelming favorite to win the tournament and end the terrible ICC curse because they are hosting the entire event for the first time in history.
But compared to the team that went to England for the 2019 ODI World Cup, the Indian team for the forthcoming World Cup is very different. Up to seven players who visited England in 2019 won’t be present at the same competition in 2023.
Despite having played for Indians in 2019, players like Shikhar Dhawan, Vijay Shankar, MS Dhoni, Kedar Jadhav, Dinesh Karthik, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar won’t be there for the 2023 ODI World Cup.
Dhawan, a key member of India’s 2019 team, hasn’t participated in an ODI since December of last year, while all-rounder Vijay Shankar last played in an ODI during the 2019 World Cup. However, he won’t be playing in the forthcoming World Cup. The 32-year-old was a surprise selection for team India in 2019.
On August 15, 2020, former captain MS Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket. Currently, he is mainly involved in the IPL (Indian Premier League). Kedar Jadhav, who was chosen for the 2019 World Cup, is currently inactive in both domestic and international cricket; his most recent one-day international was played against New Zealand in February 2020.
On the other side, superstar wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik played his final ODI against New Zealand in the 2019 semi-final. The 38-year-old frequently makes commentary and participates in local competitions. Yuzvendra Chahal, India’s star spinner, is noticeably absent from the team for the 2023 World Cup. The 33-year-old has recently played a significant role for the national team but was left off the World Cup roster.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, a pacer, is additionally missing from the 15-man team that was also named. Bhuvneshwar last participated in an ODI match in January 2022, and he hasn’t appeared for India since then.
Team India’s 15-member roster for 2023 ODI World Cup: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan (wk), Hardik Pandya (vc), Ravindra Jadeja, Suryakumar Yadav, Shardul Thakur, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav.
