Co-hosts To compete in the T20 World Cup in 2024, the United States of America (USA) did not go through any qualifying rounds. Given that the United States of America is co-hosting this major event, the national squad was a lock on the roster. But because to their excellent performances, the club has won over some supporters worldwide and hasn’t let down those back home. On June 5, they declared their arrival and defeated Pakistan, creating history.
The USA is among the few countries where cricket is still a popular sport. The nation that is proud of its NBA and baseball has gradually begun to take an interest in the sport because of its national squad. The World Cup has clearly been received by the local audience, according to Richard Verma, the Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources, who reiterated that the response to cricket has been positive.
“I’m very bowled over, to use cricket terminology. The United States is truly incredibly honoured and privileged to be hosting the men’s T20 World Cup for the first time. This is fantastic that our nation is beginning to appreciate cricket, a game that is so popular in so many other nations,” Verma stated, as cited by Crickit.
“Not only do the 20 participating national teams showcase the talent of the finest cricket players in the world, but they also demonstrate the global reach of the game. It would have been unthinkable only ten or fifteen years ago for the US to host the Cricket World Cup. However, Major League Cricket is thriving in the US these days,” he continued.
