In the current series against England, hosts India confirmed the Test debuts of two cricket players. The third Test match between India and England began on Thursday, February 15, at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot. Middle-order batsman Sarfaraz Khan and keeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel received their Test caps. Because KL Rahul was out with a quadriceps issue, Sarfaraz was given the opportunity to play, and Jurel took over for KS Bharat, who had been having bat-related problems.
Two Indians are making their Test match debuts together for the first time since July 2023. Opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal and wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan made their debuts during the India vs. West Indies Test match at Windsor Park in Roseau, Dominica.
Making their Test debuts are Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel.
Against 387 deliveries, Jaiswal struck a stunning century on his Test debut, which included 16 boundaries and a maximum. His 229-run partnership with captain Rohit Sharma set India’s victory in that Test match in motion. Conversely, Kishan made two catches in the opening inning to demonstrate his skills behind the wickets and managed just one* at the bat. With an inning and 141 runs to spare, India won the game, and Jaiswal was rightfully voted Player of the Match for his outstanding debut performance.
During the most recent Test match in Visakhapatnam, another potential cricketer, Rajat Patidar, also received his Test cap. Going back to the current situation of the India-England Test match in Rajkot, it is clear that both Khan and Jurel have great first-class records and are talented players.
With 45 first-class matches under his belt and 3,912 runs at an average of 69.85, Sarfaraz Khan brings a plethora of domestic cricket experience to the table. His recent successes with India A provide more evidence of his preparation for Test cricket.
With 15 first-class matches under his belt and 790 runs at an average of 46.47, Dhruv Jurel has proven himself to be a reliable batsman. He demonstrated his capacity to function well under duress with his significant contributions to India A. Both of these debutants have yet to come to the crease and establish themselves at the highest level; as of this writing, India is batting at 67/3.
