The 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup is expected to be won by India and England, according to legendary Sri Lankan batsman Kumar Sangakkara. India will host the eagerly anticipated ICC international tournament from October 5 until November 19.
Sangakkara added that if Sri Lanka continues to play well in the current Asia Cup, they may go to the World Cup’s knockout rounds.
Notably, Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan in a dramatic match to go to the Asia Cup final.
“I predict that India and England will be the top favourites. Sri Lanka might be a playoff contender based on how they played in the final game and throughout the Asia Cup; once you’re in the playoffs, you’re only one game away. If you have a good day, you might make it to the championship game, the former captain of Sri Lanka told Sky Sports.
My opinion is that Hardik Pandya’s fitness makes India the favourite: Eoin Morgan
Former England captain Eoin Morgan said that as Hardik Pandya is fully healthy, the home team would be the favourite. The 37-year-old says the all-rounder bowlers well and bats down in the order.
“Hardik Pandya‘s bowling talent and physical conditioning level. “There are very few sides in the competition that would be true contenders if they would have someone who bats in the top six and has the ability to bowl,” Morgan said. “He has bowled a little bit in the Asia Cup so far, but he has bowled really really effectively.
“In my opinion, they are probably the favourite because Hardik Pandya is healthy and can bowl five or six overs of quality bowling,” he added.
A 15-person provisional team for India has been named for the ODI World Cup. The two-time champs haven’t decided on their roster yet.
