Today saw the unveiling of the state-of-the-art, 34,000-seat modular Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, which will play host to eight ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 matches in New York. This week marked the commencement of the project in Eisenhower Park, Nassau County, located thirty miles east of Manhattan. Work has already begun on the outfield and site fencing has been erected. In three months, the stadium—which will have premium and general admission seating, VIP and hospitality suites, a party deck, and cabanas—will be ready to accommodate 34,000 spectators for the greatest cricket carnival event ever.
Although a first for cricket, modular stadiums are frequently utilized for other sports, such as Formula 1, Golf, and the Olympic Games, offering spectators all the amenities they would anticipate from a major international athletic event.
The stadium was created by Populous, a renowned architecture firm for sports and entertainment venues. Populous is responsible for some of the most famous stadiums in the world, such as Yankee Stadium in New York, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, which is the largest cricket stadium in the world, and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, home of the English Premier League. They are the New York Yankees’ and New York Mets’ architect of record in New York. The USA-based international sports procurement company The Parker Company will project manage the build on behalf of T20 Inc., while Arena Event Services, with experience from past major international sporting events, will supply and install the stadium infrastructure.
The location, which is close to New York City, promises to give all attendees at the largest ICC event ever a top-notch experience. It will feature a dedicated fan zone with a range of food and beverage outlets as well as global leading media and broadcast facilities.
The grandstands from the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix will be adapted for the T20 World Cup venue; work on the infrastructure is slated to begin in February. Sustainability is a significant component of this project.
The wicket, a drop-in square that is used all around the world, including at Eden Park and Adelaide Oval, is presently being curated in Florida before being driven to New York in the first part of May. Under the direction of renowned Adelaide Oval Head Curator Damian Hough, Adelaide Oval Turf Solutions is developing the pitches, and the LandTek Group—US-based sports turf experts who have worked with the New York Yankees, New York Mets, and Inter Miami CF on their stadium and training fields—is providing the outfield.
Eight ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 matches, including one of the biggest rivalries in sport—India against Pakistan—and the host team, the United States of America—will be held at the venue between June 3 and June 12, giving fans the chance to witness history firsthand.
“We are excited to be unveiling the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024,” ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice stated. In preparation for the largest-ever ICC event, the start of construction on the stadium—which can hold 34,000 cricket fans—marks a crucial turning point. We are collaborating with top vendors to construct the modular stadium so that spectators and athletes alike can have a remarkable time during the eight games in June of this year in New York.
