The commentary team for the 2023 Asia Cup, which begins on August 30, is led by Ravi Shastri and Wasim Akram. Sanjay Manjrekar, Gautam Gambhir, Irfan Pathan, and Deep Dasgupta are the other four members of the panel from India; Akram will be joined by countrymen Ramiz Raja and Bazid Khan as well as his longtime ally Waqar Younis.
Athar Ali Khan of Bangladesh, Russel Arnold of Sri Lanka, and Scott Styris of New Zealand round out the 12-player lineup, which has a resemblance to that of the 2022 competition with just Raja and Bazid being the new recruits.
The 50-over competition, which consists of 13 games and serves as a warm-up for the upcoming ODI World Cup, will feature six teams split into two groups of three each: Group A is made up of India, Pakistan, and Nepal, while Group B is made up of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. Each group’s top two teams will advance to the Super4s, where the top two teams will compete in the championship match.
Due to India’s unwillingness to visit Pakistan, the original hosts, as a result of the tense political relations between the two countries, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) approved PCB’s hybrid model, and the event would now be held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Due to a protracted impasse between the interested parties, Sri Lanka was ultimately chosen as the neutral site for India’s games.
Currently, Multan and Lahore will host the Pakistan portion of the competition, with the former serving as the site of the competition’s opening match between Pakistan and Nepal on August 30. On September 3, 5, and 6, respectively, Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium will play host to two league games and one Super4 match. The remaining nine games will all take place in Sri Lanka, with Colombo hosting six and Pallekele hosting three.
