Shaheen Shah Afridi received advice from former Pakistani captain Waqar Younis to bowl like Indian fast Jasprit Bumrah in light of his poor performances at the current ICC Cricket World Cup. Shaheen did not perform well in Pakistan’s three games thus far in the competition, taking just four wickets while giving up 139 runs at a pitiful economy rate of 6.31.
Waqar Younis claimed that in all three of his games so far in the main event, the Pakistan pacer has lost his composure. I’m unsure whether his fitness is an issue. He is too focused on getting wickets and lacks discipline in his bowling. The Daily Star cited Waqar Younis as stating, “When you do the same thing repeatedly, like Shaheen Afridi is trying to get his yorker going, then batsmen know that and they are ready for it.
Bumrah’s attack against Pakistan in Ahmedabad, which the two-time winners won by seven wickets, was highlighted by Younis as another example. Mohammad Rizwan and Shadab Khan were taken out by Bumrah, who finished with stellar figures of 2/19 in seven overs and went on to earn Player of the Match. The 29-year-old has eight wickets at a fantastic economy rate of 3.44, which puts him in joint first place among bowlers in the ODI World Cup.
“Bumrah is putting pressure on the opposition, and his line is top of the off stump. The former cricket player said, “He bowled so superbly against Pakistan and created pressure to obtain wickets.
The former cricketer-turned-commentator continued by expressing his belief that Shaheen Afridi performance may have been impacted by the absence of his normal new-ball partner, Naseem Shah.
No one, the 51-year-old continued, could argue that Pakistan lost its composure because they were without one bowler. After suffering a shoulder injury during the Asia Cup 2023 match between Pakistan and India that was postponed due to rain in September, Naseem, 20, was disqualified from the event.
“Naseem is a capable bowler who rarely gives runs away. In response to Naseem’s pressure, batsmen take chances against other bowlers and succeed in taking wickets. I don’t believe it is due to missing only one bowler, but rather because they are complicating things, Younis said.
