Taskin Ahmed, Bangladesh’s star fast bowler, appears doubtful for the match owing to a shoulder injury, dealing a severe blow to their chances of winning their key match against South Africa in the present ICC World Cup.
Due to an injury that prevented him from playing against India in their most recent match, Taskin missed their initial practice at the Wankhede Stadium on October 22. It is believed that he has not entirely recovered.
He seems iffy for the upcoming match against South Africa as he has not yet recovered entirely, a member of the team management informed Cricbuzz on Monday. “Let us see what happens today (during the practice session),” the manager added.
“Even if we don’t get him (Taskin) against South Africa, we are expecting him to be available when we start our campaign in Kolkata,” he said, referring to the match against the Netherlands on October 28.
Taskin had the shoulder injury during their tour of South Africa in 2022 when he was unable to finish the first Test.
Team management was informed that he needed an operation, but they decided against it in favor of the 2022 T20 World Cup.
He expressed his dissatisfaction to the head coach Chandika Hathurusingha while heading into the nets for a batting practice before the game against New Zealand on October 18 in Chennai since he felt uneasy during the game against England.
Hathurusingha even demonstrated some arm-freezing exercises for him, and subsequently he was included in the starting lineup for the match against New Zealand. However, the strategy scarcely paid off as he failed to make an impact in that game.
In the first practice, Taskin did not bowl a single delivery and instead worked on his recovery all day with physio Bayzidul Islam.
Shakib al Hasan, the skipper of Bangladesh’s ODI team, will be closely watched by the Bangladeshi team as he is set to bowl today for the first time since suffering a quad tear against New Zealand. Shakib al Hasan missed the game against India.
Similar to before the match against India in Pune, Shakib batted for a considerable amount of time in Wankhede. However, a final judgment will be made after seeing him bowl a few deliveries and participating in a running session.
