After the explosive batsman crushed a 53-ball 78 against the Punjab Kings at Mullanpur on April 19 to lead his team to a nine-run victory, former Australian cricketer Tom Moody talked about Suryakumar Yadav returning to form with the Twenty20 World Cup in mind. Tilak Varma and Rohit Sharma in the middle gave Suryakumar good support as he batted until the 17th over while playing the long game. His innings were primarily responsible for the visitors’ 192/7 total before the bowlers stopped Punjab’s hitters.
Indeed, it is imperative that he gradually regains his maximum level of fitness; it would be fantastic if he could play for the entire 40 overs. Not because he bowls or anything, but rather for his own mental health and physical well-being as a means of getting ready for life beyond the IPL, Moody stated on Star Sports Cricket Live.
It was an excellent inning today, and he spoke about his uncertainty about the surface and the team’s desire to ensure that all of their top-order hitters remain available until the 17th over. Obviously, with Rohit Sharma out of the picture at that point, he had to assume the responsibility. That therefore caused it to drop slightly from his typical strike rate of 160–170. “But even at 150, who wouldn’t accept 150?” he continued.
As Jasprit Bumrah continued his excellent bowling form and won back the Purple Cap, Moody also discussed his thoughts on the player’s performance. With three wickets at a cost of just 21 runs in his quota, Bumrah was predictably the most economical bowler on either side. Just two deliveries earlier, Bumrah’s blistering inswinging yorker destroyed Rilee Rossouw’s stumps.
He struck twice in his opening over to send back temporary starter Sam Curran cheaply. Later, as Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma were about to steal the game away from each other, Bumrah made a comeback to remove them both.

He’s currently operating at the height of his abilities. He bowled a right-arm over ball to Rilee Rossouw, who is a left-hander, and it was as good as any other ball. Whether you’re Brian Lara or Rilee Rossouw, you’re not going to sit back and take it easy. That delivery was flawless in every way. Once more, Mumbai is relying heavily on him to change their situation. The Punjab Kings were in complete control after his first two overs of bowling. However, it’s interesting to note that he didn’t bowl until the 13th over.
At that point, in my opinion, the Mumbai Indians allowed the Punjab Kings to enter the game. My choices are Coetzee and Bumrah, and I’m curious to know what the other fast bowlers have to say about this show. In order to entirely shut out Punjab on campus, Moody felt that he should have bowled once more.
Dale Steyn, a former bowler for South Africa, discussed the Mumbai Indians’ bowling performance.
“It’s a difficult one because we want Bumrah or Coetzee to return to help them finish games early. However, since Hardik hasn’t been bowling as well lately and some of the other bowlers traveling, like Romario Shepherd, are expected to complete, they might find it difficult in the end. It actually starts to feel like, “Where do you use these guys?”
“I agree that the goal of closing down a play and increasing the run rate until it becomes unachievable is the goal when a team is down four on the powerplay. Even with Bumrah available, teams may still manage 10–12 over once you let them get going again. You would, therefore, like to end the game. Mumbai must now work out their tactical issues, but they also need one of their bowlers to step up and support Bumrah and Coetzee greatly, as they risk losing more wickets if they continue in their current manner.”
Steyn also discussed last night’s effort by Ashutosh Sharma. The early losses had seemingly eliminated Punjab from the game, but the young player single-handedly maintained his club in the chase. In his spectacular 28-ball 61, which included a sweep for a six-back square off Bumrah’s free hit, he smashed seven sixes and two fours.
Oh, yes, without a doubt. Even with its close games and production of new heroes, the Indian Premier League never fails to disappoint us. And this is someone, following a blow like this, that we may be discussing for the next few years. And as we previously discussed—or as I suggested, for that matter—sometimes a team needs just one ball to get rolling,” stated Steyn.
“And then Ashutosh gets down and plays the sweep that goes for six after Bumrah bowls a no-ball. And everyone seems to jolt, perching on the edge of their chairs as they consider what they are seeing. Would it be possible that we are seeing something novel in Indian cricket? Alright, amazing knock.
Yes, I feel bad for him because he could have been the spark that ignited Punjab’s IPL career if he could have led his side to victory. However, you get the impression that this could be a message to the dressing room that they would find it difficult to get motivated for this IPL. But that doesn’t lessen the impact of the knock that Ashutosh and Shashank gave tonight.
