Legendary cricketers Sunil Gavaskar and Irfan Pathan agree that 2023 will go down in history as a great year for Indian cricket. The journey in cricket included exhilarating wins, devastating losses, and memorable moments that touched fans all throughout the country.
Renowned cricketer Sunil Gavaskar highlighted the women’s team’s victories, saying that the year was outstanding for both the men’s and women’s teams, especially the latter after Women in Blue played so well.
He said on the Star Sports program “Follow the Blues” that “I think it’s been a fantastic year for both the men’s and the women’s teams, particularly the way the women’s team has performed.”
Following a close loss to Australia in the T20 World Cup semifinal, the women’s squad showed resiliency and won gold in the Asian Games. Sunil Gavaskar praised the remarkable back-to-back Test victories over cricket powerhouses England and Australia, calling it the most exciting event of the year.
“The Indian women’s squad had difficult difficulties early in the year against both Australia and England, the opponents of the two Test victories towards the close of the year. Aside from what we witnessed during the World Cup, that has been the most thrilling element of cricket. After ten consecutive victories, there was that one awful day, which ironically transpired to be the World Cup finals. There will be a lot of interesting things in 2023, Gavaskar continued.
One of the greatest years for Indian cricket was that one: Irfan Pathan
Renowned analyst and former fast bowler praised the team’s incredible ODI victory rate, calling it a historic accomplishment. Pathan praised the Men in Blue’s overall performance, despite the fact that they lost to Australia in the World Test Championship and ODI World Cup finals.
“I thought the way they won matches was fantastic. It was a great year.” They had the greatest victory % in Indian cricket history in ODIs. That was, in my opinion, one of the finest years for Indian cricket, remarked Pathan.
Irfan Pathan acknowledged the World Cup drought but took comfort in Virat Kohli’s exceptional form and Shubman Gill’s rise.
“There were a lot of good things that happened overall, even though the World Cup win eluded us once more. Shubman Gill had a fantastic year, and we witnessed the form of Virat Kohli, to which we had become used over the years,” Pathan continued.
