Former Australian captain Steve Waugh has discussed the contentious dispute between Mitchell Johnson and David Warner. The controversial opinions Johnson expressed about Warner in a recent piece have drawn a lot of attention.
The former paceman viciously attacked Warner, accusing him of being conceited and rude. Johnson argued that the seasoned opener was not worthy of a “hero’s send-off” and highlighted Warner’s role in the sandpaper controversy.
He also took aim at chief selector George Bailey, referencing a text he got after he disagreed with the resting of West Australian fast bowler Lance Morris for a Sheffield Shield game.
Steve Waugh countered by saying that players have to be tough and able to take criticism.
“They both have the right to their opinions as adults, and they ought to be able to take criticism,” Waugh said in an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald.
Mitchell Johnson will provide commentary for Australia vs. Pakistan’s opening Test match.
Concerns regarding Johnson’s commentary role with Triple M surfaced amid the Warner affair. Nevertheless, a number of sources claimed that the 42-year-old would be providing commentary for the upcoming Test series between Pakistan and the Kangaroos. He may not have had his name on the 18-person commentary list at first, but he will do his job. On December 14, Australia and Pakistan are set to play their first Test match.
In this, his final series, Warner must find a way to end his incredible adventure in the longest format of the game with a win. After putting up mixed results in the last two years, the left-handed hitter is keen to prove his abilities in the forthcoming series as well. Pakistan is currently playing a practice match against PM XI in the meantime.
