India won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2023 with a 2-1 series victory after the hosts won the first two Tests. Australia won the third Test in Indore to prevent India from winning the series, but their victory was in naught because the fourth Test in Ahmedabad ended in a tie. India and Australia are slated to begin a three-match ODI series on March 17, following the completion of the BGT. Steve Smith will continue to lead Australia’s One-Day International squad for the duration of the series, as Pat Cummins will remain at home.
Pat Cummins moved home to be with his unwell mother during the final two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2023, at which point Steve Smith captained Australia. Due to the passing of the captain’s mother, Steve Smith will also lead Australia in the forthcoming ODI series.
Australia’s roster appears to be replete with all-rounders, as a number of returning players have been included. With the exception of the absent pacers, the Men in Yellow will attempt to play their strongest possible team at the ODI World Cup. As well, Ashton Agar returns to the lineup, while David Warner returns from injury.
There are many discussions concerning the balance: Andrew McDonald, the coach
In a similar vein, the Australian side’s head coach, Andrew McDonald, weighed in on the team makeup the visitors appear to have assembled before the ODI series.
“We’ve had a few chats about the balance of the team we want to field; we’ve tried a structure with eight hitters to bat a bit deeper; we’ve experimented with that. As a result, there will be a variety of lineups leading up to the World Cup. Several versatile players have been selected for the roster, and they can all play for the same team. So, we must answer some of these questions: “Cricket Australia cited McDonald’s statement.
David Warner, Travis Head, Steve Smith (captain), Marnus Labuschagne, Mitchell Marsh, Marcus Stoinis, Alex Carey, Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green, Josh Inglis, Sean Abbott, Ashton Agar, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Ellis, and Adam Zampa comprise the Australia ODI squad against India.
