Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal, two senior Bangladeshi athletes, will play for new teams in the next Bangladesh Premier League, whose auction will take place on September 24. Tamim Iqbal, a fellow veteran who joins from the Khulna Tigers, will take his position.
Rashid Khan, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Babar Azam are just a few of the 443 foreign players whose bids will be put up for auction. The 203 local players selected by the BPL governing council for the next season have been grouped into six categories. Only Mushfiqur Rahim is worth BDT 80 lakhs among players in category A.
Shakib is expected to join Rangpur Riders again after choosing to quit the Fortune Barisal team.
Four cricketers in the B category are paid BDT 50 lakh, 18 players in the C category are paid BDT 30 lakh, 31 players in the D category are paid BDT 20 lakh, 75 players in the E category are paid BDT 15 lakh, 29 players in the F category are paid BDT 10 lakh, and 45 players are paid BDT 5 lakh.
Soumya Sarkar is a World Cup contender and was selected for the Bangladesh ODI team for the current home series against New Zealand. He also made the playing XI for the series opener, which was rained off, therefore it is intriguing to see him placed in the D category.
Nasir Hossain, a former all-rounder for Bangladesh, who led the Dhaka franchise previous season, isn’t selected in the domestic player draught. He was one of the eight individuals who were accused of corruption by the ICC in the Abu Dhabi T10 League earlier this week. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chose not to draught him because the probe is still ongoing.
The three charges against Nasir were: failing to disclose to the DACO receipt of a gift worth more than $750; failing to disclose to the DACO full details of any approaches or invitations received to engage in corrupt behaviour in violation of the Code; and failing or refusing, without compelling justification, to cooperate with any DACO investigation into potential corrupt behaviour in violation of the Code.
Nasir last represented Bangladesh in 2017; “We have not included him in the BPL players draught because there is a corruption charge against him and he cannot take part in any domestic tournament(in Bangladesh) unless he is cleared from it,” said a member of the selection panel.
