Shaheen Afridi dismissal of top batter Virat Kohli during the Asia Cup 2023 match in Kandy on September 2 has been criticized by former Indian pacer S Sreesanth. After the game was abandoned owing to rain, it is noteworthy that India and Pakistan split the points.
When Shaheen Afridi decent length ball initially hit Virat Kohli bat and then went straight towards the stumps, Kohli was dismissed for just four runs.
Sreesanth claimed that he does not count the dismissal of the former India captain as a wicket because it was only luck that brought Pakistan the wicket. The 40-year-old further stated that he is keenly anticipating India and Pakistan’s upcoming matchup in the present competition.
“Unfortunately, India suffered. Virat Kohli’s dismissal was fortunate for Pakistan since it came off an inside edge. It is not a wicket in my book. I am familiar with him, therefore I am aware of his likely thoughts in response to Pakistan’s jubilation. Sreesanth was reported by Cricket Pakistan as saying, “I’m simply waiting for the next India-Pakistan game.
Speaking of the game, Rohit Sharma chose to bat first after winning the toss. The top order disintegrated in response to Pakistan’s bowling attack, hence the decision backfired. Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya spearheaded India’s batting effort when they were 66/4, putting up a record 138-run fifth-wicket partnership.
Before the Men in Blue were bowled out for 266 runs in 48.5 overs, Kishan made 82 off 81 while Hardik made 87 off 90. Shaheen Afridi stood out among the bowlers, finishing with 4/35 in his 10-over session. The pace also eliminated Rohit, Hardik, and Ravindra Jadeja in addition to Kohli. But because of the bad weather, the game was called off.
The Super Four match between India and Pakistan will take place on September 10 at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo.
