Ahead of the WPL 2025 auction, Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women revealed their roster of players who were retained and released. The retained players who garnered attention are wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh, captain Smriti Mandhana, and star batsman Ellyse Perry. In contrast, the franchise released names like Simran Bahadur and Disha Kasat for the third season.
The team maintains both its winning mentality and the unity that has been essential to its success by keeping players who genuinely represent RCB’s principles and daring style of play. The players’ outstanding performances—such as those of Purple Cap winner Shreyanka Patil and Mandhana, who finished as the fourth-highest and highest run-scorers in the WPL 2024 and guided the team to its first championship victory—are the source of that faith.
Prior to a mini-auction, the WPL retention and release process is always a delicate balancing act. We were able to keep a lot of the players from the team that won the championship the previous season, but we also had the freedom and chance to choose some players from the auction to add depth for the upcoming campaign,” head coach Luke Williams stated.
Disha, Heather, Nadine, Simran, Indrani, Shraddha, and Shubha are all free. He continued, “We appreciate their important work and wish them the best of luck in the future.
It still seems unreal at times to play for the team I’ve liked since I was a young child and then win the trophy with them. However, the culture of support, resiliency, and the unshakable ties we’ve formed in that dressing room are what really make this trip unique, not just the cricket or the wins. The goal is to encourage one another to perform at our highest level on and off the field.
Being a part of a team that prioritizes people and values over results has a special power. With such motivating teammates and our amazing supporters who add even more significance to every moment during this season, I can’t wait to keep building on what we’ve already accomplished.” stated Shreyanka Patil, an all-rounder for the RCB.
“Remaining with RCB means more to me than just wearing the jersey—it’s about being part of a family united by passion, purpose, and a shared belief in each other,” Asha Sobhana remarked in response to her reappointment. It has truly changed my life to come here. I was unsure about my role in the game at one point and was prepared to hang up my boots.
But I felt a new sense of purpose and belief after joining this team. It gave me new life and helped me accomplish something I had previously believed was impossible: making my debut for India. Despite the difficulties and disappointments, every practice and every game with RCB serves as a reminder of my boundless potential.
