Former South African cricketing legend AB de Villiers praised Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, for his extraordinary skill. De Villiers highlighted Rohit’s incredible progression from being the second-slowest to the coveted 10,000-run mark in ODIs to being the fourth-slowest to 2,000 runs in ODIs. De Villiers showed his tremendous regard for the Indian captain.
The ex-South African hitter, who was well-known for his sharp cricketing abilities, didn’t hold back in expressing his respect for the hitman’s unflinching attitude on the pitch. He highlighted Rohit’s unwavering fighting attitude, which has distinguished him throughout his career. The India opener bravely battled players like Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel in a difficult Test match in Durban, Mr. 360 recalled. As he said,
He simply wouldn’t stand back to Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel, or any of our fast bowlers during a Test match in Durban, I recall. He’d look me in the eye. When someone chirped. Right in their face, chest out, he would be. I’ve always enjoyed that,”
Rohit Sharma was there to defeat us, thus I wasn’t having fun: AB by Villiers
He continued, “When I first watched him play, I knew this man had something special to give. He was there to defeat us at the moment, so I didn’t appreciate it. But looking back, he always had this great spirit of perseverance. On his YouTube account, De Villiers disclosed.
The 39-year-old South African legend also praised the growing relationship between Rohit Sharma and the youthful and gifted Shubman Gill. In fact, Rohit and Gill, who reached this milestone in just 13 innings, have the distinction of doing so more quickly than any other Indian duo.
Very intriguingly, he and Shubman Gill have a remarkable working relationship. It is always risky for the opposition to have two warriors at the crease. They have a strike rate of 110 and an opening pair average of 87-odd (95). If they are able to accomplish that for India in the World Cup,” De Villiers remarked.
