The captain of India, Rohit Sharma, denied rumors that he had met earlier this month to discuss the selection of the BCCI’s (Bombay Cricket Association) T20 World Cup 2024 squad with head coach Rahul Dravid and chief selector Ajit Agarkar.
The batter from Mumbai refuted the reports in the media and advised the supporters not to accept rumors and conjecture. Speculations that Rohit would start the batting with Virat Kohli at the highly anticipated June tournament were dismissed with a laugh. He made light of the rumors circulating in the media over the team’s composition, stating that head coach Rahul Dravid was practicing his boys’ cricket on a red soil surface in Mumbai and that Ajit Agarkar had been keeping himself occupied by playing golf in Dubai.
“I’ve never met anyone. Somewhere in Dubai, Ajit Agarkar is playing golf. Rahul Dravid is in Bengaluru, watching his child perform. In fact, he was in Mumbai. Yes, he was. Here at the CCI (Cricket Club of India), he persuaded him to play on a red soil wicket. That’s all there is to it,” Sharma said to Adam Gilchrist and Michael Vaughan in the most recent Club Praire Fire Podcast episode.
To tell the truth, we haven’t met. Nowadays, all information is false unless you hear it directly from me, Rahul, Ajit, or a representative of the BCCI standing in front of the camera,” he continued.
Wednesday, April 17, saw a portion of the media assert that Rohit had met with Dravid and Agarkar earlier in April to discuss a number of significant selection-related issues, one of them being the necessity for Hardik Pandya to bowl more frequently in the 2024 IPL. Additionally, according to the rumors, India’s opening pair for the T20 World Cup—which the USA and the West Indies will jointly host—would be Kohli and Rohit.
With 361 runs at an average of 72.20 from seven matches, Kohli is the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) 2024 top scorer. In their most recent game against the Chennai Super Kings, Rohit scored a century for the Mumbai Indians. Rohit has amassed 261 runs at a 52.20 average in six matches. Hardik hasn’t been able to reach his full potential, though, as he’s only managed 131 runs at an average of 26.20 from six innings and three wickets at an economy rate of 12.
You have to laugh at what Rishabh Pant does behind the scenes. Rohit Sharma
Vaughan, a former captain of England, asked Rohit to list one player who he would like to have in the team purely for fun. The reason the 36-year-old chose Rishabh Pant was his sense of humor, particularly when he was taking wickets.

“To be honest, these guys are all kinds of nuts. Rishabh Pant is the one who always makes me chuckle. He is truly a crazy person. Since he was a young child, I have observed him. He lost a year and a half because of the accident, which saddened me a lot. He’s quite clever. You chuckle at the things he does behind the stumps. I appreciate that he approaches things in his unique style, “Rohit remarked.
With a victorious run in the upcoming T20 World Cup, India will like to break their drought in International Cricket Council (ICC) competitions after heartbreakingly losing the ODI World Cup 2023 final at home.
