Ricky Ponting, head coach of the Delhi Capitals, commented on Prithvi Shaw’s lackluster performance in the ongoing IPL 2023. Notably, Prithvi Shaw was removed from the previous match against Sunrisers Hyderabad after a series of poor performances.
The DC starter has appeared in six games and has amassed 47 runs at an abysmal average of 7.
Ricky Ponting highlighted Shaw’s poor league performances and indicated that he may be sidelined for an extended period.
“It simply reached a point where, yes, it was six games this season, but I believe it was six or seven games at the conclusion of the previous season. I believe it’s been 13 [12] games since Prithvi opened the batting for the Delhi Capitals with a fifty, and if you look across the entire tournament, there are a lot of other players at the top of the order for other teams who are performing much better than Prithvi, according to Ponting, who was quoted by ESPN cricinfo.
“In the six games he played, he scored just over 40 runs, averaging around 7 or 8, which is not what we require at the moment. Therefore, it was a difficult decision to leave him off the roster, but hopefully the team we send on the field tomorrow can help us win another game,” he added.
In the previous match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, the team’s brain trust elected to replace Shaw with Phil Salt at the top of the order. Even though the batter was dismissed on a first-ball blank, the Capitals are confident he will play against SRH on April 29 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. David Warner and company have won just two of their last seven matches and are currently positioned at the bottom of the IPL Points Table with only four points. They are in critical need of points to remain in contention.
