The discussion around India’s squad selection is getting more heated as the much-awaited ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 approaches. Former Indian opener Navjot Singh Sidhu gave head coach Rahul Dravid guidance in the midst of all the talks. He underlined that India’s success in the major event in June would depend on having a strong bowling attack.
Group A includes the co-hosts, the United States, Ireland, Canada, and India’s bitter nemesis, Pakistan. Their campaign begins on June 5 in New York against Ireland, and on June 9 at the same location, they will play their much anticipated match versus Pakistan. India’s group stage odyssey will end in Florida on June 15, when they will play Canada after taking on the co-hosts, the USA, on June 12.
By May 1st, BCCI will reveal the team.
If the Men in Blue are to win the coveted T20 World Cup, Sidhu thinks they need to start five bowlers who specialise in taking wickets.
“My straightforward advice to Rahul Dravid is that, simply, if you want to win this tournament, have five bowlers who specialise in taking wickets,” Sidhu stated in response to a viewer’s query during the #AskStar segment on Star Sports.
Navjot Singh Sidhu cautioned Rahul Dravid against making any concessions, saying, “The compromise point is where a team’s character collapses.”

Sidhu requested that, in addition to the seasoned pair of Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav, the gifted leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi be included in the spin department. If he is able to return to full fitness, he suggested Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar, Mohsin Khan, and Mayank Yadav for the pace role.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will reveal the 15-member T20 World Cup squad by May 1. The Indian Premier League (IPL) season is currently in progress for the players.
