In the IPL auction, the Punjab Kings paid INR 11.75 crore to acquire Harshal Patel. But in his four overs against the Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the pacer has fallen short of expectations, giving up 47 and 45 runs, respectively. In the current IPL 2024 season, he has been trusted to bowl towards the end of the game. However, the pacer has not lived up to the expectations, and as a result, he has come under heavy criticism.
The Punjab Kings management is expecting the pacer to recover in the remaining games; therefore, they are not too concerned about it.
Bowling coach Sunil Joshi of PBKS stated that it’s too soon to draw any conclusions prior to their matchup with the Lucknow Super Giants. He also mentioned that the 33-year-old is actively working on improving his economic rate.

India Today cited Joshi as saying, “You will go to take wickets thinking that the batsmen will take the risk, so we as a team give them that chance, so they have that option with them.”
“As the season is just getting started, it’s too soon to draw any conclusions, but he is working on his economy rate and is our leading wicket-taker in death overs, so when you are giving runs in the dying overs, you will obviously look to take wickets as well,” the man continued.
Remarkably, the Punjab Kings overcame the Delhi Capitals by four wickets in their season-opening encounter before falling to RCB in their subsequent game. The bowling of Kagiso Rabada and Harpreet Brar is somewhat balanced, but the batting hasn’t left much of an impression. Although Sam Curran performed admirably against Delhi, Jonny Bairstow, Prabhsimran Singh, and Jitesh Sharma have not yet joined the party.
While Liam Livingstone must focus on making the most of his starts, skipper Dhawan must improve his strike rate in order to help Punjab advance to the IPL 2024 playoffs. Dhawan scored 45 runs in the most recent game.
