Day 2 of the second Test between Pakistan and Sri Lanka suffered a significant setback as it was nearly entirely washed out by heavy rain. After the outfield of the stadium received a beating from the persistent rain, making it impossible to resume play, the official confirmation came. The morning session only allowed for 10 overs, leaving both teams anxious for Day 3’s additional play.
Despite the scant action, Pakistan was able to gain the upper hand courtesy to Abdullah Shafique and Babar Azam’s strong batting displays.
While Babar Azam only spent a brief time at the wicket, Shafique, who is close to a century, showed off some impressive talents. Pakistan are in a strong position and still have eight wickets to go.
The fact that Pakistan bowled Sri Lanka out for just 166 runs in just two sessions on Day 1 is another factor in their commanding position. Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah both took three wickets, but Abrar Ahmed finished with a four-wicket haul, making him the player to watch. Dhananjaya de Silva of Sri Lanka battled valiantly with his 57-run innings, but Pakistani bowlers proved to be too powerful.
Weather on Day 3 is uncertain, but players are optimistic.
Players and spectators are concerned about the likelihood of additional interruptions because the weather forecast for Day 3 does not appear encouraging either. Pakistan, noticing that they have been scoring at an impressive rate of around 4.50 runs per over, has remained upbeat and will continue with their aggressive strategy.
Despite the day’s rainy conditions, Babar Azam’s fascinating matchup with Prabath Jayasuriya gave a preview of what could have been a compelling competition. Fans will hope that the weather will be more accommodating so that both sides may demonstrate their talents in the following days. Cricket fans will be keeping their expectations high, anticipating watching an exciting match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, as Day 3 is slated to begin early at 9:45 am.
