The iconic Wankhede Stadium will host two major events on Sunday, April 30, 2023, when the Mumbai Indians host the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2023 evening encounter.
The IPL will host its 1,000th game tonight, and Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma will play on his 36th birthday at his home ground.
Mumbai Indians and Rohit Sharma’s IPL 2023 campaign has not been a memorable one thus far, as the franchise sits in the bottom half of the points table, but this squad knows how to rebound.
Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag believes that despite losing two consecutive games, Mumbai Indians are still capable of making a comeback and that captain Rohit Sharma, who will play his 150th match as IPL captain, should not feel undue strain.
Speaking on Star Sports’ Cricket Live, Sehwag stated, “MI have unquestionably lost two matches, but their season is not over.” Rohit should not feel the burden of captaincy and should perform freely. This team has the ability to recover. It could still make the semifinals.”
Former India cricketer Irfan Pathan believes that the Mumbai Indians are struggling in the IPL 2023 due to the inability of their bowlers to maintain pressure on new batsmen.
“The issue with MI bowlers is that they enable new batters to settle in. Even the uncapped batters have been permitted to play aggressively. Pathan stated that almost every bowler, with the exception of Piyush Chawla, did not consistently bowl in the correct regions.
Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh concurred with Virender Sehwag, stating that the legacy of MI is such that every player desires to be a part of this franchise, and that it will be Rohit’s duty to revive it in IPL 2023.
“MI has had a distinct legacy. Every cricket player aspires to join this franchise. Even though the circumstances have changed somewhat this year, Rohit is responsible for reviving this legacy. They have a large number of youthful, talented players. Now it is his responsibility to develop these athletes, said Harbhajan.
