On Friday, April 19, at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, the 29th game of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) was a thrilling match between the four-time winner Chennai Super Kings and the Aiden Markram-led Sunrisers Hyderabad. The game was another easy win for Chennai in the event. They won by seven wickets and kept their third place in the IPL standings with eight points from six games. MS Dhoni, the captain, didn’t play much with the bat, but the 41-year-old had a busy first game.
Dhoni took a great catch behind the stumps to get rid of Aiden Markram. But even though Dhoni made a great catch, Ruturaj Gaikwad won the “Best Catch of the Match” award for getting rid of Harry Brook.
MS Dhoni said this about not getting the award at the end of the match:
“Even so, I didn’t get the best catch. I thought it was a great catch. I was in such a terrible place. People think it’s easy because we wear gloves. I still remember one game from a long time ago where Rahul Dravid was keeping and caught one like that. You can’t take a catch like that with your skills. You would have to be in a very bad spot to be able to catch that.”
The fourth win of the IPL 2023 went to Chennai Super Kings.
In their match against Chennai, Sunrisers Hyderabad could only score 134 runs after 20 overs. Ravindra Jadeja, a veteran Indian all-rounder, was great for the home team in the first game. He took three wickets and gave up only 22 runs in the four overs he bowled.
During the run chase, Devon Conway, who is 31, kept up his amazing form by getting 77* runs in 57 deliveries. Ruturaj Gaikwad also had 35 runs to his name. The opening stand was very important for Chennai, which went on to win the game by seven wickets and get their fourth win of the IPL 2023.
