On October 21 at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, Match 20 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, South Africa thrashed England by a commanding margin of 229 runs. Heinrich Klaasen’s astounding hundred (109 off 67) helped South Africa, who were given the opportunity to bat first, achieve a mammoth total of 399/7 in their allotted 50 overs. In response, South Africa bowled England out for 170 in 22 overs thanks to three wickets taken by Gerald Coetzee. With three fours and six sixes in his innings, Marco Jansen played a magnificent counter-attacking innings of 75* off 42 balls. Gus Atkinson and Reece Topley, who each managed 20 and 26 runs in their three overs over the final three of the inning, were his opponents.
Mark Wood is confronted by Heinrich Klaasen’s shout in celebration of his 100th run.
He was sitting on his haunches within the crease when Atkinson pitched a low full toss, and he skillfully smacked it clean over his head. As he watched the ball hit the bowler for a six, the 23-year-old maintained his posture.
