For the fifth Lanka Super League (LPL) season in 2024, Bangladeshi seamer Shoriful Islam is expected to sign with the Kandy Falcons. He will take Mohammad Ali, the cricket player for Pakistan, who is injured and cannot play in the competition.
Meanwhile, Shoriful Islam played for the Colombo Strikers in the LPL’s fourth season. On Wednesday, July 3, he will join Kandy.
Additionally participating in the current LPL are Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, and Towhid Hridoy from Bangladesh. The Dambulla Sixers signed both Rahman and Hridoy, while the Colombo team is led by star pacer Taskin Ahmed. In the meantime, Kandy, who suffered a defeat to Colombo in their previous match, is greatly boosted by Taskin’s presence.
They lost to Colombo by 51 runs in the second match of the campaign, while they won the first game against Dambulla Sixers by six wickets. Their next game is on July 6 at home against Colombo, where Shoriful Islam might be included in the starting lineup. Despite being included in Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup team, he was unable to break into the starting lineup due to the availability of players like as Taskin, Tanzim, and Mustafizur.
Taskin, Shoriful’s countryman, has apologised for skipping the pivotal June 22 match against India. The right-arm bowler slept through the team bus for the game, according to a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official. But the official said he’s not clear if Taskin would have started in the starting lineup in the first place.

“It is accurate that Taskin joined the team after failing to board the team bus,” the official stated on Monday. “However, the head coach (Chandika Hathurusingha) can answer whether he was in the plan or not (against India), so only the coach can say why he did not play,” the official, who asked to remain anonymous, told Cricbuzz.
After expressing regret to his colleagues, Taskin participated in Bangladesh’s last Super Eights match against Afghanistan. Concurrently, the pacer asserted that he arrived at the ground prior to the toss and acknowledged being dropped when playing India.
