Presentations coming up...
Earlier in the game, Zimbabwe Under-19 were excellent with the ball, particularly Newman Nyamhuri who took four wickets by bowling aggressively. Ryan Simbi also contributed with three wickets. However, they were a bit sloppy in the field towards the end of Namibia's innings. Namibia struggled to form partnerships and could only manage 146 runs, with Hanro Badenhorst's 39-run innings being the highlight.
With not a big total to defend, Namibia Under-19 needed early wickets to stand any chance in the game. Jack Brassell and Gerhard Van Rensburg did manage to get one scalp each and that was all their bowlers could contribute, but the duo of Panashe Taruvinga with his patient and matured half-century along with Brandon Sunguro and Campbell Macmillan, shattered their dreams of getting into the Super Six.
Having done well to keep Namibia Under-19 under the 150-run mark, the Zimbabwean side went into the break as the happier of the two sides. In their pursuit of a modest total, they were rocked early as Ryan Kamwemba fell in the fifth over. Panashe Taruvinga and Brandon Sunguro got together and weathered the storm for the Zimbabwean side. What was most pleasing to see during their 101-run stand was how they roared the strike by milking singles and also stayed calm. They knew the run rate was never an issue for them and they took their side over the line with ease. Brandon got dismissed after ensuring their victory.
Zimbabwe Under-19 are up and running in this ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, 2024 and with this win, make their way into the Super Six round. After the initial stutter, Panashe Taruvinga and Brandon Sunguro ensured no more hiccups as they cruised their side to a convincing victory. Namibia Under-19 will be upset with their performance as they are out of this tournament. Namibia Under-19 are officially knocked out of the tournament.
