Well, that's all that we have from this game! The Sixers have grabbed all the headlines in this Sydney Derby and extend their lead at the top of the summit. Thunder, on the other hand, will be disappointed with this result and will want to bounce back in their next encounter. The action in the BBL continues as on Thursday, 14th January 2021, Brisbane Heat clash swords against the Melbourne Renegades at 1915 local (0815 GMT). Join us for that one. Till then, goodbye and take care!
Earlier in the day, Sixers put Thunder up to bat first. They got off to a flier courtesy of Hales' amazing knock, where he also reached his half-century. But some quick wickets on the part of the Sixers and the Thunder were on the back foot. Some good batting by Sams, who also reached his fifty and McAndrew towards the end saw them end on a good note. The spinners of the Sixers were good with the ball and their star man was Steve O'Keefe who just conceded 15 runs and also picked up 3 wickets in his spell. All things considered, the Sixers were good throughout and will be happy with this result and performance.
The bowling by Thunder was poor and by the time, they could improve things, the Sixers had already put a fair distance between themselves and their counterparts. They let the batters of Sixers dictate the tempo right at the start and that came back to haunt them later on. Cook's over at the start, where he conceded 23 runs could have been a tide-turning one. Sams picked up 2 wickets and also had Sangha, McAndrew and Cutting in the wickets column, who all picked up a wicket. Overall though, they could have done much better with the ball in hand.
Starting the chase with the reduced target, Sixers got just the start that they were hoping for from their openers. Even though Avendano did not contribute much in terms of runs, he did well at the start to help Philippe wreak havoc on the Thunder bowling. Philippe was in supreme form as he went about playing his shots and also reached his half-century in the process. The Sixers lost a couple more wickets but with Josh and Christian out there, even as Josh lost his wicket right at the end, they would have had no doubt in mind and chased the revised total down with 8 balls to spare.
Sixers continue their dominance at the top of the points table as they win their second game on the trot and they also gobble all the four points, that were on offer. Inspired by Josh Philippe's wonderful show with the bat, they extend their lead at the top of the charts. Wonderful stuff from the Men in Magenta.

FOUR! Here comes the winning moment! Shortish and around off, Brathwaite punches it through cover-point and it goes to the fence. The Sixers win by 5 wickets.
Carlos Brathwaite is in now. Just one run needed though.

OUT! TIMBER! Philippe cannot believe it. He wanted to finish the game but that's not going to be. Sams with a superb slower one again. Philippe lines it up and looks to slog it on the leg side but does that really early. Misses and the ball disturbs the stumps behind. End of a stunning knock though.

WIDE! The scores are level. Sams runs in and bangs it short. It goes well over the batsman. Wided.

Two more! Short and wide outside off, Philippe punches it past the diving cover fielder. The deep cover gets around and stops. Two taken.

Slower and fuller, Philippe though gently tucks it through square leg. Scampers back for an easy two in the end. Just a boundary away.

Short and down the leg side, Christian looks to pull this time. Misses. Not called wide as he moved a bit on the off side again. Sixers just a hit away though. 6 more needed.

SIX! HAMMERED! Slower one outside off, Christian throws the kitchen sink at it. Nails it over extra cover for a huge biggie.

Play and a miss! Slower fuller ball around off, Christian swings hard but makes no connection. The keeper fumbles and they cross for a bye. Just 14 needed now.

SIX! WOW! Sensational from Christian. Just the 2nd ball he is facing. A fuller ball around off, he gets it right under it and pumps it over the bowler's head for a biggie.
