ERIN BURNS IS THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH! That's all from this encounter! Sydney Derby lived up to the hype and produced a classic in the WBBL which went right to the wire. On Saturday, 21st November 2020, another 4 games are lined-up, starting with the clash between Melbourne Stars and the Brisbane Heat. The action begins at 0930 local (2230 GMT, THE PREVIOUS DAY). Join us for that. Until then, take care and cheers.
The bowling by the Sixers was hot and cold. They did well to keep chipping away at the wickets, on the other hand, they kept leaking runs as well, especially towards the end of the innings. Undoubtedly, the star with the ball with regards to this game was Erin Burns. She picked up 3 wickets in her 4 overs and also scalped four catches which made sure that they are on the right side of the result. Aley, Campbell, Niekerk and Perry were also in the wickets column. A good victory for them but they will look to better their bowling performance in the upcoming games.
Earlier in the day, the Sixers ended on 147 with the bat courtesy of some good batting. Healy and Van Niekerk were good with the bat and helped them reach a good total. The bowling by the Thunder started off on a dull note, but they did well to claw back towards the end. Sammy Jo Johnson and Hannah Darlington were good with the ball for the Thunder.
Chasing 147 was always going to be a task and Thunder were well up to this task! They started off slowly and to add to it they also lost 2 wickets in the Powerplay. They kept losing wickets throughout their innings and at the same time, they also kept attacking the bowling by Sixers. They played some smart cricketing strokes and made sure that they came in touching distance of the final score only to miss out in the end. The star with the bat for them was definitely Phoebe Litchfield. She did take her time to settle down, once she had her eyes in, she stayed until the end and made sure that Thunder were close to winning this but just missed out in the last ball. A very tough fight put up by Thunder. Although they missed out on a victory, they will be pleased with their performance.
The Sydney Derby certainly lived up to the hype! With the way the Sixers batted in the first innings, one could assume that this would be a one-sided game. Though, Thunder did not seem to think so as they gave a fight right until the end of the game. Unfortunately for them, they were not able to see the game through as the Sixers win this game by 4 runs. Nail-biting stuff!

OUT! TIMBER! Burns with a wicket on the last ball. A terrific yorker under pressure. Litchfield jumps out of her crease again but Burns is right on the money. Phoebe misses to connect and the middle stump is thumped. A terrific end for the Sixers. Sydney Sixers Women win by 4 runs.

FOUR! BOOM! Shot! A biggie to win now! Four will mean we head to the Super Over. What a shot from Litchfield. Tossed up and outside off, she skips down the track and slams it over mid off. The long off fielder runs to her left, dives to stop but she misses and it is a boundary.

FOUR! Pulled away! Another important boundary. This game is going down to the wire. Short ball around off, Litchfield swivels and pulls it down to the deep mid-wicket fence. 18 needed in 6 balls now.

A single now as Smith drives it towards mid off. A direct hit would've been end of Smith.

Good change from Kapp. She follows Smith and bowls it slower. Smith looks to cut but misses. DOT!

FOUR! Squeezed nicely! Smith with a smart option. Full and on middle and leg, Smith does well to make room and squeeze it through backward point for a boundary.

Top save! Burns again with a brilliant effort in the deep. Short ball around off, Litchfield pulls it wide of the deep mid-wicket fielder. That was heading to the fence but Burns knocks it down to her left. Saves a boundary.
