Right then! That is it from this rain curtailed game between Sydney Thunder and Adelaide Strikers. The Big Bash League carnival continues on 26th January 2021 with 3 games lined up to entertain you. The action begins at 1200 local (0130 GMT) Till then cheers and take care.
Alex Hales is named the Player of the Match for his brilliant innings of 63 runs off 39 balls.
Earlier after rain delay Adelaide posted 115 in their 14 overs on the back of 80 runs from Jake Weatherald and a 63-run stand between him and Jonathan Wells helped them cross the 100-run mark after losing 3 quick wickets. For Sydney Thunder with the ball, Green, Sangha, McAndrew and Doggett all got a wicket apiece as their brilliant bowling effort in the rain shortened game ensured that they go onto return the favour to Adelaide Strikers. Stay tuned to know who the Player of the Match is.
Adelaide Strikers started well with the ball as Daniel Worrall struck on the very first ball. but since then they were just spectators as Ferguson and Hales milked them for runs and carted them at will. In the end, they ended on the losing side and that too by a big margin of 9 wickets in this rain curtailed game.
Chasing a small total of 116 runs in 84 balls needed a solid start but Sydney Thunder lost Usman Khawaja on the first ball of the chase itself. But since then skipper Callum Ferguson and Alex Hales build on the innings. Hales who is enjoying his purple patch at the moment went beserk as he carted the Adelaide bowlers at will to bring up his half ton. On the other hand, Ferguson played second fiddle to Hales and ended up wih 46 off 33 balls. In the end, Hales' unbeaten 63 ensured that the Thunder end with a 9 wicket win.
That is a perfect revenge from Sydney Thunder after losing to the same opposition by 6 runs on 24th January 2021. Chasing a small total and that too in a rain curtailed game can be tricky but Hales kept his cool and along with Callum Ferguson took the side home with ease.
