Pakistan beat Bangladesh by an innings and 44 runs

The first Test is over but bizarrely, the second Test is two months away. And before that, a one-off ODI would be played as well. That is because Pakistan will now have their domestic T20 league, Pakistan Super League, to be staged from the 20th of this month. In that span, Bangladesh will go back home, host Zimbabwe for a full tour and then return here. Join us for the coverage of that series. And others too, in between. We take your leave for now. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
That ends an expected one-sided Test match. Bangladesh showed some promise but that was far and few in between. But there are signs. The batsmen have the talent but self-discipline is lacking. The bowling is not heavily reliant on the spinners now. Pakistan are seeing some refreshing young talent in both batting and bowling and could see themselves slowly climb up the Test rankings in a year or two. They move to 4th spot in the World Test Championship, with 140 points but India and Australia are well ahead.
Victorious Pakistan captain, Azhar Ali, lauds his side for getting the reviews on track in this Test. Admits that usually, Pakistan are not good with their reviews. On this win, Azhar says that this is included in the Test championship and any Test win is not easy. Praises his bowlers for sticking to their discipline in spite of the wicket not providing enough on the morning of the first day. Then, praises his batsmen for bedding in, supporting the hard work put in by his bowlers. On being asked about which department excites him more, batting or bowling, Azhar says that there are some good batsmen coming up and to see young fast bowlers do well is a great feeling. Thanks the Pindi crowd for turning out in large numbers not only for this match but for also turning up for the Sri Lanka game before this series. Ends by praising Naseem Shah for taking a Test hat-trick at such a young age.
Bangladesh captain, Mominul Haque, is very disappointed for not making a bigger total in the first innings on a flat wicket. On being informed that as many as 10 batsmen were dismissed between 20 and 60, Mominul says that it is a crime if you do not make a century after being set. On the feeling after Bangladesh's triumph in the Under-19 World Cup, Haque smiles and says that it is a massive achievement and believes that the future of Bangladesh cricket is in safe hands.
NASEEM SHAH HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH. First, he is asked about his fitness. Naseem says that it is not a major worry and it is just a muscle pull. Hopes to resume bowling within a couple of days. Thanks the almighty for helping him perform well and also the crowd for taking out its time and coming in large numbers to watch the game. On his hat-trick and his energy during that spell, Shah smiles that the first LBW review did the trick, as he initially felt that it was going down the leg side. Once that went in his favour, he decided to go full and straight. Hopes to keep performing like this and wishes that he be remembered in a nice manner.
Now, the bowling. Pakistan were better in these conditions, exploiting the reverse and conventional swing while Bangladesh were not too bad either. Their bowling on Day 3 morning showed that they have fast bowlers coming up the ranks as Abu Jayed and Ebadot Hossain took 3 each. Pakistan have some questions to answer regarding Mohammad Abbas and Yasir Shah but the youngsters Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah highlighted their bowling depth. Yasir took 4 in the second but it was more because of the batsmen throwing it away. Please stay tuned for the presentation.
Second innings was a much better start from the visitors. They looked focused, determined not to throw their wickets away. They were looking in good shape at 124/2 with Sunday about to come to a close but along came Naseem for one final burst and he blew Bangladesh away. His hat-trick completely floored the tourists and they lost their way.
Pakistan too, started poorly, in their batting effort but that was it. Shan Masood grinded the opposition along with Azhar Ali and Babar Azam on Day 2 while Asad Shafiq and Haris Sohail took advantage of the platform set. They lost their way towards the end, but a lead of 212 was more than enough on this deck.
A forgetful Test for Bangladesh then. They were rocked early on Day 1 but then recovered well. However, the patience of their batsmen was tested as the middle and lower middle order threw its wickets away, after being set. That meant, only 233 was possible on a good batting track and that perhaps was where the game was gone.
Shaheen Afridi struck the right chord as he dismissed Mominul Haque in the first over of the morning. That nearly ended all hopes of a fightback and a possibility of Pakistan batting again but Rubel Hossain and Liton Das' effort managed to revive the hopes a little. They hung in there for 71 balls but eventually, the hosts found a way to break through.
Easy peasy for Pakistan then. Just 85 minutes needed to wrap the innings up on Day 4. 104 balls required to take the 4 wickets. Victory was never in doubt and it was only a question of whether Bangladesh could avoid an innings defeat.

OUT! CAUGHT! That ends the match. Azhar Ali is pumped up as he charges across to his mates to celebrate. Tossed up outside off, Jayed cannot resist and goes for the slog sweep. All he manages is a top edge which goes straight up in the air. Asad Shafiq runs back from second slip and takes it nicely. PAKISTAN WIN BY AN INNINGS AND 44 RUNS!

OUT! LBW! The decision is overturned against Nigel Llong again. 6th time in this Test. Full and around leg, Das looked to sweep but missed and was hit on the pads. Yasir appealed but for some reason, Llong did not raise his finger. Azhar Ali immediately went for the review and Ball Tracker showed the ball to be pitching in line of leg stump and then going straight on to hit the leg stump. Liton's fighting innings ends. He would have wished to at least help Bangladesh avoid the innings defeat. The deficit is now 47.
Huge shout for LBW! Not given and Azhar Ali takes the DRS. Nigel Llong is the umpire again. Will this be the 6th decision overturned in this Test against him? Yes sir. Poor Nigel Llong.

Risky shot. The googly, outside off, Liton goes back to cut but is cramped for room. The ball just about hits the bat, in front of the keeper and goes past first slip. DRINKS BREAK. Bangladesh have done well to drag this into the second hour. They lost Mominul in the very first over of the day but the 71-ball stand between Rubel and Das did raise the hopes of the deficit being erased. Still 56 runs adrift. Can they make Pakistan bat again? The bowlers have been on song and it really looks like a matter of time before this game is done.

OUT! LBW! Abbas breaks the stubborn stand. His biggest strength is his accuracy and that helps him immensely. A length ball, outside off, Rubel looks to defend but the ball comes back in a long way and hits the batsman on his pads. Abbas appeals and umpire Gaffaney raises his finger. There is a discussion between the batsmen and Das agrees for the review request to be taken. But the 15 seconds are done by then and Rubel is timed out. So he is not allowed the review. SAVED BY THE INSIDE EDGE. That explains why Rubel took the review, without even consulting his partner. A full ball, outside off, Hossain looked to defend but missed as the ball came back in. He got hit on the pads and up went Afridi in an appeal. Umpire Nigel did not take long to raise his finger but neither did Rubel to raise his hand and signal a 'T'. Ultra Edge confirms that the ball hit the inside edge and then the pad. Decision overturned. 5th time in this Test against Llong.

OUT! LBW! A close, close call but the decision is upheld. Describing the events chronologically. A full ball, outside off, swinging in, Mominul looked to flick but was missed and was hit on the pads. Afridi appealed, umpire Gaffaney thought for a while and then raised his finger. Mominul immediately reviewed, indicating to his partner that there was bat involved. Now, here comes the controversy. Umpire Erasmus checks the Ultra Edge and it is not exactly clear whether the ball has hit the pad first and then the bat or vice versa. The bat has definitely hit the pad. But umpire Erasmus is convinced within a couple of looks that the ball has not hit the bat at all. Goes for the Ball Tracker and that shows the ball to be crashing into leg stump. Mominul is not amused but has to walk back. Afridi strikes in his very first over of Monday. Bangladesh still trail by 82.
A wicket in the first over of the day! But Mominul has reviewed this. He indicates to his partner that he has hit this, on being adjudged LBW. Ultra Edge detects a massive spike but the bat has hit the pad and the ball has hit the bat at the same time. Close call. But the third umpire feels the ball has hit the pad alone. Ball Tracker shows it to be hitting the leg stump. Gone!

The players are out in the middle. Shaheen Afridi to start off proceedings for the day to Mominul Haque. Here we go...
Pakistan coach, Misbah-ul-Haq, is having a chat with Danny Morrison. Smiles and praises Bangladesh for bowling really well in the morning session on Day 3. Lauds their discipline but also rues some loose shots from Pakistan batsmen. Honestly says that the team was looking at a lead of around 300 but then credits Bangladesh. Then comes to his own unit and appreciates the way the bowling performed.
PITCH REPORT - Danny Morrison observes a few cracks around the good length area and expects the spinner (s) to have a say. Expects a bit of lateral movement early in the morning and predicts a quick finish in the first session itself.
WEATHER - A bright and sunny morning welcomes us to Monday in Rawalpindi. There is a forecast of rain but around 4 pm local time.
Day 3 was turning out to be an ordinary dull day of a Test but Naseem Shah's hat-trick not only spiced things up, but also hastened this match towards completion. But cricket is a story of uncertainties and comebacks. Not too long ago, the colts from Bangladesh staved off a stunning attacking bowling display from India to win the 2020 Under-19 World Cup. Can the seniors take any inspiration from the same?
Final day of the match? Final session perhaps? A trail of 86 with just one recognized batting pair left. Bangladesh find themselves against the wall with a difficult task of saving an innings defeat, let alone the Test. They have no way to go apart from try and bat for as long as possible and keep it in small aims. Hello and a warm welcome.
... DAY 4, SESSION 1 ...
Looking at the game, Pakistan are in the driver's seat as they are just 4 wickets away from sealing a win. Bangladesh, on the other hand, still trail by 86 runs and will look to erase that first without losing any further wickets. Day 4 might see the end of this match but you never know. Will Pakistan win by an innings or will Bangladesh make them bat again? Do join us on Day 4 at 1000 local (0500 GMT). Till then cheers!
Bangladesh made amends to their bowling from the other day and came out with a plan. Their opening bowlers Abu Jayed and Ebadot Hossain bowled with great rhythm and kept the opposition batters quiet. Rubel Hossain was lethal in his bowling as he constantly peppered the batsmen with short stuff. Taijul Islam held one end up and that helped the pacers to chip in with wickets. In the morning session, they took 4 wickets which included the wicket of centurion Babar Azam as well. At the end of Pakistan's innings, Bangladesh were trailing by 212 runs.
Earlier in the day, Pakistan resumed their innings from 342/3 but could not get partnerships going as they lost wickets at regular intervals. The last 7 wickets added just 103 more to their overnight score and managed to post 445 on board. Haris Sohail took the fight to the opposition and somewhat succeeded in his attempt but lack of support from the other end brought about his downfall.
An engrossing session of play. What looked like a sedate session early on, Naseem Shah's spell brought life to it. He was class apart in his bowling as his hat-trick took the wheels out of Bangladesh's batting. In the process, he became the youngest bowler to claim a Test hat-trick. Still trailing by 86 runs and with just 4 wickets in hand, it looks a daunting task for the visitors to save this match.
Well, the light is not that great and the umpires are taking the players off. Since we are already past the scheduled close of play, it will be STUMPS ON DAY 3!

OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Three in three for Naseem and he is ecstatic! Youngest ever to take a Test hat-trick. Take a bow, young lad. But a poor shot from the former skipper. Full and wide outside off, could have been left alone but Mahmudullah goes after it. All he manages is a thick outside edge which goes straight to first slip where Haris Sohail completes the formalities! The young lad is running wildly and his teammates are struggling to catch up with him. Well bowled. The complexion of this day has changed in just 5 minutes.
Mahmudullah has to come out now. He is facing a young lad on fire, to try and become the youngest to take a Test hat-trick.

OUT! LBW! Two in two! Mominul does not get to face any ball as long as Taijul was there. True. But that is because he lasts only one ball! What a delivery to the tail-ender. His innings ends even before it starts and Naseem has his tail up. The yorker, outside off, swinging back in, Taijul looks to dig it out but misses. He is hit on the pads and up goes Nigel Llong's finger! Naseem is on a hat-trick!
Taijul Islam walks in as the nightwatchman. Not much time left. His job is to ensure Mominul does not get much strike.

OUT! LBW! Height is not an issue! Najmul Hossain Shanto has to go. That looked high to the naked eye. But the technology says something else. Full and angling on middle, Shanto looks to flick it but misses the ball completely there. He gets rapped on the pads and there is an appeal from the bowler. The umpire shakes his head. Azhar Ali takes the review after a bit of a discussion and the replays roll in. Naseem is fine on the front foot. Now Ultra Edge comes in and there is no bat involved. Now Ball Tracker comes in and it shows three reds! The ball is projected to hit the leg stump. Mominul asks Nigel Llong as to how is that out - to which, Llong replies, 'I don't know, mate.' Poor umpire. 4 decisions, not given, all overturned (so far). The long stand of 71 is broken.
An appeal for lbw! Pakistan have taken the review. Height seems to be an issue. Ultra Edge detects no inside edge on this one. Here comes Ball Tracker. And it shows three reds. Shanto will have to go!

We are back for the final session of Day 3. The Pakistan players are out in the middle. Tamim Iqbal and Najmul Hossain Shanto will resume their innings for Bangladesh. Yasir Shah will inaugurate the final session of Day 3.
... Day 3, Session 3 ...
Pakistan batted for 10.5 overs after Lunch and were bowled out for 445 on board and ended with a lead of 212 runs. Bangladesh started their second innings watchfully and then were getting a move on but they lost Saif Hassan to a beauty from Naseem Shah. Pakistan new ball bowlers Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Abbas looked for some assistance from the surface but failed to find any of it. But introduction of Naseem Shah was a great move from skipper Azhar Ali. He not only got the ball to skid but also got some extra bounce on his deliveries. A couple of his deliveries also kept low and one such delivery consumed Saif Hassan. Pakistan still have enough in their pockets to play with. They would look to dent Bangladesh in the final session of the day and push them on the back foot. On the other hand, Bangladesh would want their batsmen to stay out there and not lose any more wickets. Join us back at 1500 local (1000 GMT).

Hassan looks to defend it off the back foot once again but the ball sneaks through the gap between the bat and the pad to crash on the off and middle poles. Pakistan get the start they wanted.

Welcome back for Bangladesh's reply. As Tamim Iqbal and Saif Hassan start their innings and Shaheen Afridi to start with the ball.
On the other hand, Bangladesh bowlers toiled hard and were superb this morning. All the pacers of Bangladesh were into the wickets. As Abu Jayed, Rubel Hossain and Ebadot Hossain bowled their heart out. Taijul Islam did well to contain the runs and built pressure at one end thus helping the pacers to reap rewards. Jayed and Rubel both ended with a 3-wicket haul and Taijul and Ebadot both getting 2 and 1 wickets respectively.
Pakistan would be happy here that they have managed a lead of over 200 runs. For putting Pakistan in this position, the applause should go to Shan Masood who upfront played a responsible innings and was involved in partnerships with skipper Azhar Ali and then with Babar Azam. Though he departed soon after his ton but then Asad Shafiq and Babar Azam joined forces and stitched a 137-run stand. But since their dismissal, it was a downward slide for the hosts. If not for Haris Sohail's 75, they would have ended on a much lower score.

OUT! RUN OUT! Naseem Shah is the man there. With this, Pakistan innings comes to an end. Short ball on off, Naseem defends it to point off the back foot. He is a bit lazy in getting behind the line as Saif Hassan there spots it and scores a direct hit at the striker's end. It is referred upstairs and what we see is Naseem was lazy in getting his foot down in time and is caught short there. PAKISTAN ALL OUT FOR 445! LEAD BY 212!

OUT! LBW! Umpire's call and Shaheen Afridi takes a long walk back. Bangladesh continue their merry work from the first session. Hossain is the one who gets a wicket now. He bowls one on a good length around off, the ball comes a long way with the angle into the batter. Afridi looks to defend it off the back foot but gets hit on the pads. The bowler appeals for lbw and the umpire raises his finger. Shaheen straightaway takes the review. The replays roll in and Hossain is well inside the popping crease, Ultra Edge then shows there is no bat involved. Finally, Ball Tracker comes in and shows that it is umpire's call on impact and also the wickets. The ball clips the top of middle stump. Pakistan are falling like nine pins here. Pakistan though retain the review.
Review time! Shaheen Afridi is adjudged out LBW and he reviews it straightaway. Rubel Hossain is fine on his front foot. Ultra Edge comes in and Shaheen fails to get any bat behind the ball. We are back for the second session. The Bangladesh players are out in the middle. Haris Sohail and Shaheen Afridi will resume their innings for the hosts. Rubel Hossain will start the proceedings for the second session.
... Day 3, Session 2 ...
Bangladesh will the happier side of the two as the players head for Lunch. The opening bowlers were spot on from the word go. As Ebadot Hossain and Abu Jayed both wrecked havoc in the Pakistan camp. Hossain especially was spot on. He troubled the Pakistan batsmen with his lines and lengths. Jayed got rid of Babar Azam early in the day. Hossain then bowled a delivery that came back in to dismiss Asad Shafiq. Since then the Pakistan innings seems to have fallen apart as Mohammad Rizwan failed to occupy the crease by playing an unnecessary shot. Despite losing 4 wickets in the session, Pakistan are in a strong position as they lead by 187 runs and have Haris Sohail their last recognized batsman out in the middle. He has also reached his fifty and would look for the support of the tail to extend Pakistan's domination. Whereas, Bangladesh would look to wipe out the tail as quickly as possible. Do join us for the post Lunch session in about 40 minutes.

The ball also did not rise as the batter would have expected. Still, Rizwan goes through with it and gets it high and towards fine leg. Mahmudullah there runs forward and takes the catch. DRINKS! A good start to the day for Bangladesh. They would be happy with their efforts. Their opening bowlers bowled with venom as they kept things tight and made life difficult for the Pakistan batsmen. Babar Azam and Asad Shafiq both departed to the pavilion and with two new batsmen in the middle for the hosts, Bangladesh would look to wrap up the innings as soon as possible. An interesting hour awaits before Lunch for both the teams.

Jaffa! Simply unplayable stuff from Ebadot Hossain. Hossain is bowling with fire here. Ebadot bowls one around off and gets it to straighten from the surface. OUT! CAUGHT! Bangladesh's love affair with the morning session continues. They have managed to see the back of both the overnight batsmen in quick time. It seems that they are bowling with a plan here. They have kept it tight and have not given any loose balls. Hossain bowls one on a length and outside off, the ball comes slightly in off the surface. Shafiq looks to run it fine down to third man but he only manages to get a faint inside edge and the ball goes to the left of the keeper where Liton Das moves to that side and takes it. Das immediately appeals and the umpire raises his finger.

Beauty from Jayed! Sohail's heart would have been in his mouth. Jayed lands one on a length and outside off, he gets the ball to nip back into the batsman. Sohail misjudges it as he shoulders arms to it. The ball goes past the off stump and into the mitts of the keeper. The bowler and his teammates appeal but the umpire shakes his head. Mominul Haque ponders over taking a review but then decides against it. Ball Tracker later shows that the ball clipped the front pad in front of off stump before going towards the keeper. Further, it shows to be clipping the off pole. As Haris Sohail was not playing any stroke to it he would have taken the long walk back had the umpire given it as out. But he is lucky there to stay and fight it out in the middle.

OUT! CAUGHT! Like Day 2, Abu Jayed strikes in his first over of Day 3 too. It is Pakistan's heartthrob, Babar Azam who takes the long walk back. Jayed bowls one full and the ball seams away off the surface. Babar gets sucked into the shot. He goes to follow it as he was confused as to play at it or leave it and in the process he could only get a thick outside edge that flies towards the slips. Mohammad Mithun at first slip was waiting for it and when it came he just gobbles it up with ease. A good knock from Azam comes to an end and also the 137-run stand is broken.

Starts with a length ball on off, Shafiq taps it to point and looks for a run but he is sent back by his partner.
We are all set to begin. Babar Azam and Asad Shafiq will resume from where they left on Day 2. The Bangladesh players are out in the middle and they would hope they give a better performance than what they gave on the other day. They would be hoping to strike early and get a foot on this game. Ebadot Hossain will complete his unfinished over on Day 3.
Since the start of this match Pakistan have been the happier side. Pakistan have a lead of 109 runs and will look to build on it. When they came to bat on Day 2, they failed to get a stable opening stand but they were lucky as their three of the top five batsmen managed to get to half tons. Shan Masood and Babar Azam were the stars on Day 2 as they both notched up their tons. Asad Shafiq will also look to get to his Test ton. Babar Azam is still out there and Pakistan would hope that he guides Pakistan to a massive first innings lead. Bangladesh were poor with their bowling effort and were seen short of ideas as the Pakistan batsmen kept on milking the runs. Only two of their bowlers out of the five they used could get into the wickets column. They would hope to improve on that. Hello and welcome to Day 3. Who will have the say today? Will Pakistan continue their merry way or will Bangladesh stage a comeback?
... Day 3, Session 1 ...
If Bangladesh are to make a comeback in this Test then there is only one way and that is they need to pick wickets early on Day 3 and in a heap or else they could find themselves going on a leather hunt. Day 3 is also known as the moving day in a Test match. That will decide who has the advantage. Do join us for the coverage of Day 3 at 1000 local (0500 GMT). Till then cheers and take care!
Barring the first hour of the day, Bangladesh's bowling was toothless and was seen wanting for ideas. They tried everything they could but failed to strike at regular intervals. Talking about their bowlers Abu Jayed and Taijul Islam worked the most in the field. The latter though bowled the maximum. He though returned with just a lone wicket of the centurion Shan Masood. The other bowler to enter the wickets column was Abu Jayed who scalped a couple of wickets. All in all a tiring long day in the field for the visitors.
Earlier in the day, Pakistan started their reply for Bangladesh's 233 but failed to get a dream start as Abu Jayed struck in his very first to remove Abid Ali for a duck. Then came the stand between Shan Masood and Azhar Ali which revived Pakistan's innings. Just when it looked that Pakistan are cruising, Azhar Ali lost his wicket at the stroke of Lunch. But that did not affect the home team as it continued to score runs. Masood soon departed after his 3rd Test ton but Babar continued his good work after being let off the hook early on in his innings. Babar reached his 5th Test ton and him along with Asad Shafiq ensured that there is no further casualty and the duo batted out to see off the day.
A brilliant session from Pakistan's point of view. They managed to score 136 runs in 32.5 overs without losing a wicket. It all started with Babar Azam continuing from where he left before the Tea interval. Soon Asad Shafiq too joined the party as the duo started to milk runs at will. In the process, Babar reached his 5th Test ton and Shafiq too reached his 27th Test half-ton. They both added 137 runs for the 4th wicket and strengthened Pakistan's position and grip on the match as from trail they went into the lead. Currently, Pakistan lead by 109 and have 7 wickets in hand. On the other hand, Bangladesh bowlers were clueless and their attack looked toothless too. They tried everything from short stuff to full deliveries but nothing worked for them. In the end, with tiring bowlers, they just hoped for the batsmen to commit some errors but they never came.
IT'S STUMPS! A good day for Pakistan with the bat and a long day in the field for Bangladesh.
Now, Chris Gaffaney from square leg brings the light meter out. And, the light is not good, he says. So, the players walk off. 13 balls remaining. That should be STUMPS!

Drinks Break! Pakistan continue their march and have taken a lead of 37 runs. Babar Azam and Asad Shafiq have looked solid out there. They have also raised a 50-run stand and Babar has notched up his 5th Test ton and is looking hungry for more. On the other hand, Bangladesh have looked clueless in their bowling and they are short on ideas. An intriguing hour after the break awaits us. Will Pakistan continue to amass runs or will Bangladesh strike to get back into the game?

We are back for the final session of Day 2. Also known as the happening session in a Test match. Pakistan batsmen Babar Azam and Asad Shafiq walk out to resume their innings. Bangladesh players are out too. Taijul Islam will start the proceedings for the final session of Day 2.
... Day 2, Session 3 ...
The session started with Pakistan coming out all guns blazing. They counter-attacked the Bangladesh bowlers and clobbered them all around the park. Babar Azam was lucky early on as Ebadot Hossain dropped him when he was on 2. But since then it has been the Babar-Masood show. The duo added 112 for the 3rd wicket and almost ate up the deficit. Just when it looked that Bangladesh are going low on confidence, Taijul Islam bowled a beauty to dismiss Shan Masood. With Babar at the crease and Shafiq for his company, Bangladesh would look to capitalise on this opening. Join us for the final session at 1500 local (1000 GMT).
Another session which has all the aspects of typical Test match cricket. Pakistan are clear winners of this session as they managed to score 111 in the 28 overs bowled and just losing Shan Masood at the stroke of Tea. Pakistan still trail by 27 runs.

FOUR! 100-run stand is up between Babar Azam and Shan Masood. The two of them have taken life out of the Bangladesh bowling. Hossain overpitches and Babar's eyes lit up as he comes on the front foot and drives it straight down the ground for a boundary. Bangladesh seems to have run out of ideas and Pakistan are running with the game here. IN THE AIR BUT SAFE! Babar Azam is a lucky man. Back of a length ball on off, Azam looks to flick it towards mid-wicket but he closes the face of the bat early only to get a leading edge. The ball flies towards point where generally a fielder is placed but since Pakistan are attacking, the point fielder is placed deep on the boundary. Thus, the ball lands safely and the batsmen cross ends.

DRINKS! Pakistan's hour clearly. They have gone from strength to strength here. They started the counter-attack and were successful as the deficit now stands at 78 runs. Barring a chance of Babar, Bangladesh have had a quite hour. Taijul though is getting the ball to talk. An interesting hour of play awaits us.

DROPPED! A huge let off from Bangladesh. You cannot afford to let off such batsman. They do not give you a lot of chances here. Brilliantly bowled by Taijul. He tosses one up outside off, Babar Azam dances down the track and looks to break the shackles but he fails to get to the pitch of the ball. The only thing he manages is to slice it over mid off. Ebadot Hossain there runs behind as he has his eyes on the ball. But he loses his footing there and just gets his fingertips as it comes to the ground. A run taken. We are back for the second session. The Bangladesh players are out in the middle. Shan Masood and Babar Azam will resume their innings for the hosts. Babar Azam is yet to open his account and he has already faced 14 balls. Taijul Islam will start the proceedings for the second session.
... Day 2, Session 2 ...
Talking of Pakistan's batting, it did not start on the right note for the hosts as they lost their new batting sensation Abid Ali for a duck. But skipper, Azhar Ali and opener Shan Masood steadied the ship with a 91-run stand. Masood also reached his 7th Test fifty in the process. Just when it looked that Pakistan were starting to take the upper hand in the game, Abu Jayed struck for the second time to send the Pakistan skipper back into the hut. Trailing by 138 runs with Babar Azam and Shan Masood still out there it should be easy for the hosts to wipe out the deficit. Will Bangladesh continue their good work from the first session? Or Will Pakistan come back strongly? Do join us for the afternoon session at 1240 local (0740 GMT).
A good session for Bangladesh as they managed to send Abid Ali in the first over of the Pakistan innings, who was on fire after making his debut against Sri Lanka earlier in January. They kept it tight and did not allow the Pakistan batters to overpower them. The pacers initially used the conditions to good effect as they tested the batsmen with everything they had in their armoury.
So, an engrossing session of Test cricket witnessed between Pakistan and Bangladesh. 95 runs were scored in this session but two important wickets were lost by Pakistan in the process.

OUT! CAUGHT! Just as we thought that Pakistan will go into Lunch with just one dent to their batting order, Abu Jayed gives another one. He keeps it short and wide outside off, Azhar Ali gets overconfident after hitting the boundary on the first ball of the over. He goes for the cut through point. He is not in a position to play and can only edge it behind towards first slip where Najmul Hossain Shanto takes the catch. Pakistan skipper departs once again after getting a start.

Length delivery on leg, Masood looks to flick it towards mid-wicket. He misses it and the ball rolls to the leg side off his pads. The batsmen cross ends and the umpire gives it a leg bye. Pakistan are underway.
We are all set to begin. The two Pakistan openers, Shan Masood and Abid Ali walk out to the middle. So do the Bangladesh players as they disperse to take their respective fielding positions. Ebadot Hossain will start the proceedings for Day 2.
Hello and welcome to Day 2 of the 1st Test between Pakistan and Bangladesh. On Day 1 Bangladesh folded up for 233 and Pakistan did not come out to bat due to bad light. Today they will start their innings and would look to occupy the crease for as long as possible along with taking a sizeable lead. Stay tuned for the action.
... Day 2, Session 1 ...
Abid Ali is shadow practicing his drives just outside the boundary. He will be looking to bed in on Saturday while Pakistan will hope to bat for 2 days at least and get a sizeable lead. Join us on Saturday, 8th February, 2020 at 10 am local (0500 GMT) for all the action from Day 2. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
The heavy roller is being rolled on and the umpires are checking the light meter. 5 overs to go (2 cut off for change of innings) but will we get those? The answer is NO. Nigel Llong and Chris Gaffaney are not happy with the light and have shut the shop. Off go the Bangladesh players (Pakistan batsmen did not arrive at all) and that will be STUMPS ON DAY 1.
Positives for Bangladesh? Many. With one common complaint - get in, but then, instead of bedding, throw your wickets away. Only Mohammad Mithun fought till the end and was consumed by a beautiful ball from Naseem. Though, he still believes that he was not out.
Shaheen Afridi was the pick of the bowlers, by far and large. He struck on the very third ball and then went on to take 3 more, as he ripped through the middle order. They were not necessarily good balls but the ones before those led to those dismissals. Mohammad Abbas was economical and accurate while Naseem Shah was just raw pace, without much direction or luck. Yasir Shah was not at his best at all while Haris Sohail was a surprise pick with 2 scalps.
A perfect bowling performance by Pakistan. They opted to bowl on a greenish track and picked up 2 wickets in the first 10 balls. They got a couple of fightbacks along the way but thanks to Bangladesh's heart-warming gesture of throwing their wickets away, the hosts get a chance to bat tonight (which, don't think they will be too happy about).
There it is then! 233 is what Bangladesh have managed to put on the board. After losing 2 inside 2 overs, they would happily take this total. This is Stumps time but because 7 overs are left in the day, play continues.

OUT! RUN OUT! Comical way to end the innings. Abu Jayed's bat got stuck in the ground and BANGLADESH ARE ALL OUT FOR 233. Full delivery on middle. Jayed flicks it to mid on and takes off for a single. Ebadot Hossain is not interested as he sends Jayed back. Abbas picks up the ball and then has a shy at the keeper's end. He hits and the Pakistan players are confident that Abu is out of his crease. The third umpire is called and the replays show that Jayed's bat got stuck in the ground just before he entered the crease. Out is the signal on the big screen and the players make their way off the field.
Are Bangladesh all out? There is an appeal for run out and it has been taken upstairs. The replays roll in and they show that Jayed's bat got stuck in the ground.

We are back for the final session of Day 1. The Pakistan players are in a huddle before making their way out to the middle. They are followed by Mohammad Mithun and Taijul Islam. It seems that it has gotten cooler with the umpires walking out wearing sweaters. Shaheen Afridi will start the proceedings with two slips and a gully in place.
... Day 1, Session 3 ...
Another session left in the day! Pakistan would like to bundle the visitors as quickly as they can while Bangladesh would love to come out to bat in the first session of Day 2. Will we witness that or will we witness Pakistan bat in the coming session? Be back for the final session in a while.
Another excellent session for Pakistan. Just 77 runs in 30 overs and 3 big wickets. The session started with Abbas striking in the first over itself. Mahmudullah soon followed him and it looked like Pakistan might roll them over in this session itself. However, a 54-run stand between Liton Das and Mohammad Mithun saw the visitors bail themselves out from a tricky situation. However, as the stand was set to look threatening, Azhar Ali got Haris Sohail into the attack who broke the stand. Mohammad Mithun and Taijul Islam are still battling out in the middle and would look to add as many as they can to the board when they come out to bat.

OUT! LBW! What a masterful review from Pakistan. Nigel Llong has to reverse his decision once again. That never looked to be happening to the naked eye but the partnership-breaker has struck. A full ball down leg, Das goes for the sweep but fails to connect. He gets hit on the pads and the Pakistani players make an appeal. The umpire shows no interest. Rizwan, Pakistan skipper Azhar Ali and the bowler get together and after a quick chat, they take the decision upstairs. Time for the replay. Front foot is fine and there is no bat involvement which is confirmed by the Ultra Edge. Now, time for the Ball Tracker, pitched in line and hitting the leg pole, which means three reds it is. Das has to go.
Given not out, Pakistan take the decision upstairs. That looked to be going down the leg side. Let's see what the replays show. Well, that is pitching in line and it is hitting the stumps. Wow! We all thought that it pitched outside leg but that's not the case.

OUT! Caught! Abbas strikes in the first over after Lunch. This is a very poor shot from Nazmul. He did really well to defend out 5 balls but on this one he got tempted. Abbas bowls this length ball outside off, Hossain Shanto goes for the cut shot away from his body. All he manages is, an outside edge which goes straight to the keeper. Rizwan behind the wickets pouches it comfortably. The 33-run stand is broken and Pakistan start the session brightly.

The players are back for the second session. Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mahmudullah, the two batters walk out to the middle. The Pakistani players are already out in the middle. Mohammad Abbas to start the proceedings in this session. 2 slips and a gully in place. Here we go...
... Day 1, Session 2 ...
We have an hour's break now. How can Pakistan pick wickets in the second session? By the looks of it, Azhar Ali's decision to field first seems to be more because of the pitch getting better to bat second, rather than wanting to exploit the greenery on the deck. Join us back at 1.30 pm local (0830 GMT).
29 overs of pace and 4 overs of spin in that opening session. Pakistan were on top for the first 30 minutes of a 150-minute session. But the next 120 have belonged to the visitors, in spite of losing a wicket. Afridi has been excellent, Abbas has been accurate while Naseem has given it his all, vying for raw pace but the line has been off the radar. No turn so far for Yasir.
Azhar Ali kept ringing in the bowling changes but Mominul and Shanto kept firm, not throwing their wickets away until Afridi removed the skipper, setting him beautifully. Since then, Mahmudullah has forged a decent stand with Najmul.
Azhar Ali's bowlers struck the perfect chord when given the opportunity to make the first use of a green deck. Debutant Saif and the experienced Tamim were nipped out early, in 10 balls and Bangladesh had their backs to the wall. But then, Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque played perfect Test cricket after that. Started leaving a few balls, had some plays and misses, played a few shots, got some streaky boundaries but crucially, they did not get out.
Have to give it to Bangladesh. Yes, you choose to bowl and take three wickets in the first session - sure you would be happy. But to have a side reeling 2 down in the span of 10 balls and then to take only 1 more in the next 188, means that there is not much support for the bowlers.

OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! See, this is what happens if you keep Free Hit in one format after a no ball and not in another. Not justifying Mominul, but could that thought have come in his mind? Or did we just jinx him? Do not check 21.2 if you feel we did not jinx him. Full and outside off, Haque looks to drive but does not go too far forward. All he manages is a thick outside edge, which is snapped by the keeper Rizwan. Normally, the captain would have left it alone. But he went after this one. Could it just be, could it just be, could it just be - that he felt that this one was a Free Hit? Just asking... The 59-run stand is broken.

DRINKS BREAK. Well, if you are wondering, why has the break been taken after 80 minutes. This is a Friday, so we will be having an extended opening session. So, Lunch, which is normally taken at noon local, will be taken at 12.30 pm. Then, there will be an hour's gap for Lunch, due to the Friday Namaaz (prayers). Bangladesh have done well to recover after the early blows. Losing two wickets in the first 10 balls and not losing any for the next hour is a great achievement. Both batsmen have flirted with danger but have survived. Can they see off this extended session?

Play and a miss! Almost the third wicket. Full and outside off, in that inviting zone to drive, Najmul is sucked into it and almost nicks it behind.

LBW shout, the slip cordon is excited but that was pitched outside leg. Abbas did not really go up. He knew where that was pitched. On a length, Mominul missed his flick and was hit on the pads.

That is a fine ball. A yorker, around off, swinging in, but Shanto is upto it. Watches it till the last moment and digs it out.

Good fielding by Yasir. Full and outside off, a touch wide, Shanto leans and drives this away from his body between gully and backward point. Yasir Shah gives it a chase from backward point and just when the ball is about to touch the ropes, he dives and stops it. Dangerous. But saves a run for his side. Three taken.

OUT! LBW! That always looked plumb and the decision is reversed. Just the start Pakistan wanted. Two wickets with the new ball. And we do not have even 2 overs completed. A length ball, in line of the stumps, Tamim, by virtue of habit, looks to flick but falls over in the process as he misses the shot. Normally, Abbas is very straight and you cannot miss the ball when he is bowling. But Tamim does. He is hit right in front of the stumps and Abbas appeals, putting in an extended one too. But umpire Nigel Llong just asks him to calm down. There is a lot of chirp amongst the Pakistan fielders and Llong is telling them that there is not enough time left for the review counter to close. And just when it is about to get timed out, Azhar Ali signals for the 'T'. No inside edge as per Ultra Edge. The bat was nowhere close to the ball. Now, the pitching. In line of the leg stump and then straightening to hit the pads. Crashing into off stump. The decision is reversed and the Prince of Chittagong has to depart. What a blow to Bangladesh.
A huge LBW shout! Not given by umpire Nigel Llong and at the very last moment, Azhar signals for the review. No inside edge as per Ultra Edge. What will Ball Tracker say? Three reds and Tamim will have to go!

Ooohhh... interesting. A length ball, around middle, Najmul works it through the leg side and sets off, due to pure momentum. But the man at short leg reacts quickly and fires a throw at the striker's end. Misses. Najmul would have been gone!
Najmul Hossain Shanto walks in at number 3, replacing Saif.

OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! 3 balls. That is all it has taken for Pakistan to strike. Full and wide outside off, the debutant Saif cannot resist himself from having a feel for it. Goes for the drive and all he manages is a thick outside edge. It goes towards the packed slip cordon where Asad Shafiq gets across from second slip and takes it to his left. Nothing special about that delivery. Just the tentativeness in Hassan's mind to get his first Test runs. Poor lad. There will be criticism about his lack of feet movement and all but only he will be able to tell that he felt it was a loose ball and he did not want to let a scoring opportunity go by.

A length ball around middle, tucked through mid-wicket for a comfortable three. Some way to start off a Test inning...
A wonderful gesture from Azhar Ali. He walks across to Saif Hassan, who is opening alongside Tamim Iqbal and wishes him good luck. That is really, really good to see. Time for the game to begin. The man with a smiling face, Shaheen Afridi, to start off proceedings for the game. The Prince of Chittagong to face, with three slips in place. Here we go...
The players are slowly coming out from the dressing room. In fact a ceremony is taking place. SAIF HASSAN IS BEING HANDED HIS TEST CAP. Now, the opening batsmen come out to the middle, following the Pakistan players.
Pakistan (Playing XI) - Shan Masood, Abid Ali, Azhar Ali(C), Babar Azam, Haris Sohail, Asad Shafiq, Mohammad Rizwan(WK), Yasir Shah, Mohammad Abbas, Naseem Shah and Shaheen Afridi.
Bangladesh (Playing XI) - Tamim Iqbal, Saif Hassan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mominul Haque(C), Mohammad Mithun, Mahmudullah, Liton Das(WK), Taijul Islam, Rubel Hossain, Abu Jayed and Ebadot Hossain.
TOSS - The flip of the coin has gone Azhar Ali's way. PAKISTAN ELECT TO FIELD. Interesting choice. Don't really see teams choose to field in Asia, unless they expect the wicket to seam around for at least the first day.
Test cricket continues in Pakistan! Hmmm... a big thing in itself. So what if teams are still skeptical to play here. So what if boards are not sending their best playing XVs. We still have a contest. After a one-sided encounter in the T20I format, we now get ready for a bizarre Test series, where, the first Test begins today but the second is scheduled in the month of April, that is 2 months later! And in between the two Tests, there will be an ODI played too. Unthinkable and not quite understandable. Anyway, hello and a warm welcome to the first Test between Pakistan and Bangladesh in Rawalpindi.

Welcome Back!
