Mumbai drew with Rest of India

That's a wrap for the Irani Cup 2024, with Mumbai emerging victorious after a 27-year wait! The cricketing excitement doesn't stop here, though. Switch gears to the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024, already underway. Australia Women begins their campaign a short while from now as they take on Sri Lanka Women who have already lost one in the tournament. The game is about to start at 3.30 pm IST (10 am GMT). All you need to do is switch tabs to get updates from that game. Until next time, cheers.
Mumbai's triumphant captain, Ajinkya Rahane, proudly lifts the coveted Irani Cup trophy, amidst thunderous applause. He then hands it over to Shams Mulani, standing in the center, and the team erupts in jubilation.
Ajinkya Rahane, the victorious skipper of Mumbai, says that to lift this after 27 years is an amazing feeling and it was all about playing good cricket every session throughout the five days. Mentions that Sarfaraz Khan batted well but a special recognition to one player, Tanush Kotian as he batted superbly and his runs late in the order made sure that the trophy comes to Mumbai. Adds that everyone played their part and credit goes to the support staff as well for helping the boys keep in shape and preparing the perfect game plan. Closes by saying that the trophy belongs to the Mumbaikars.
Sarfaraz Khan is the Player Of The Match. He says that it is all about experience and the amount of cricket they play all around the country gives them a good idea of how different tracks will behave. Mentions that he is working hard to get things right for himself and improve on the flaws he has in his game. Closes by saying that
Ruturaj Gaikwad, the skipper of Rest of India says, he still stands with the decision to bowl first as they got three wickets int he first session but couldn't continue to build pressure afterward and lagged in the game. Reckons that the partnership between Tanush Kotian and Sarfaraz Khan helped them by adding some crucial runs and gaining good ground on them. Mentions that Abhi batted well but just that they did not add the runs down the order just like how Mumbai did and that cost them.
Time for the presentation ....
The Irani Cup 2024 began with Ruturaj Gaikwad calling the toss correctly, inviting Mumbai to bat. Mumbai capitalized on the opportunity, thanks to Sarfaraz Khan's blistering double-century, supported by valuable knocks from Ajinkya Rahane and Tanush Kotian. Rest of India responded strongly, with Abhimanyu Easwaran's magnificent 191 and Dhruv Jurel's 97 keeping them in the hunt. However, Mumbai's significant first-innings lead gave them a decisive advantage. Mumbai's second innings got off to a rocky start, stumbling to 8/171. But Tanush Kotian and Mohit Avasthi engineered a stunning turnaround, conjuring an unbeaten 158-run partnership to seal Mumbai's triumph in style.
Under the captaincy of Ajinkya Rahane, Mumbai now has done the domestic double by clinching both the Ranji Trophy and Irani Cup. Day 5 began with promise for Rest of India, but Tanush Kotian's scintillating batting display, ably supported by Mohit Avasthi, crushed their hopes. The duo forged a record-breaking 158-run partnership for the 9th wicket in Irani Cup history and pushed Rest of India out of the contest.
The skippers have shaken hands and this game comes to an end resulting in a DRAW and Mumbai has batted out Rest of India to clinch the Irani Cup Trophy. Mumbai wins the Irani Cup after 27 long years.
