Sydney Sixers Women beat Melbourne Stars Women by 5 wickets (D/L method)

Right then, what a Super Sunday we have had. The last set of quadruple matches, the league stages in the WBBL done and dusted. A perfect game between Sixers and Stars to close the league stage as well. So, that means the semi-finals of the WBBL 2020 will now be upon us. In the first semi-final, Melbourne Stars take on Perth Scorchers. That will happen on November 25, 2020 at 1910 local (0810 GMT). Following that, the second semi-final sees Brisbane Heat take on Sydney Thunder. That game happens on November 26, 2020 at 1910 Local (0810 GMT). Do join us for that. Until then, cheers and take care.
No prizes for guessing who is the Player of the Match. IT IS ALYSSA HEALY. For her magnificent 111 runs from 52 balls. She says that it is awesome to hear the crowd and it was great to see the crowd in this game. Adds that she had a good game the day before and she was hitting the ball really well and she was confident.
Earlier, after winning the toss, Sydney Sixers Women opted to bowl first. The Stars' openers got off to a great start. A couple of quick wickets fell later on but Lanning and Sciver took the Sixers bowling to the cleaners and managed to get their side to 178/4 in 19 overs in a slightly rain-affected match. Sydney Sixers needed to chase that down in an improbable 6.3 overs if they had to qualify. That was never going to happen. Their openers got off to a solid start overall. But there was a hiccup in the closing stages. Luckily though, the Sixers would reckon, Reakes steered them safely over the line in the end.
Melbourne Stars' bowlers took a pounding at the start, most of it from the blade of Healy. They could not get any wickets till the 14th over after which they made a dramatic turnaround and looked set to turn the tide completely in their favour. But they could not get the wicket of Reakes in the end and that proved to be another turning factor in this game, which was not at all short of one. For the Stars, everyone was expensive with the ball. Tess Flintoff was expensive too, but she took 3 wickets after coming back to bowl, having conceded 22 runs in her first over. She got three wickets and provided the Stars a chance to win. Unfortunately though, Lanning's women could not capitalize on that.
Sydney Sixers started off exceedingly well with the bat. The opening pair of Perry and Healy were going strong, with the latter taking charge. There just seemed to be no stopping Healy, who got to her half ton and then converted it to her 4th ton in the WBBL. The opening stand lasted for a good 150 runs before Perry fell. And that triggered a collapse of sorts, including Healy to follow, 5 runs later. That opened a window for the Stars to make a comeback. Then a revival happened before Burns fell and the match was in the balance again. Luckily for the Sixers though, Reakes managed to get a few boundaries and close things in Sixers' favour in the end.
So, Sydney Sixers finish the tournament on a positive note and they thump the best side this edition, the Melbourne Stars. Angela Reakes was absolutely pumped as she hit the winning runs. She is very happy to have come back to the Sixers, after having played for Stars earlier.
