Brisbane Heat Women beat Melbourne Stars Women by 3 wickets

LAURA KIMMINCE HAS BEEN AWARDED THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH! That's it from this game! It was a well-fought encounter and Heat have done well to end up on the winning side. The action does not stop for Saturday, as game 50 is up next. This game sees Adelaide Strikers Women go up against the Sydney Thunder Women. That game will begin at 1430 local (0330 GMT). Join us for that game. Until then, cheers!
Earlier in the game, after opting to field first, Brisbane restricted Melbourne Stars to a total of 151. All their bowlers bowled well as Grace Harris picked up a couple. If not for Mignon du Preez's half-ton, Melbourne could have ended much below of what they amassed. After the failure of Meg Lanning, du Preez stitched valuable partnerships with Elyse Villani and Natalie Sciver but wickets falling meant that she had to go for the big shots and she too perished in search of it. In the end, some lower-order hitting from Katherine Brunt and Alana King ensured some respectability to the total.
Coming to the bowling by Melbourne Stars, Tess Flintoff bagged a 3-fer and the next best was Natalie Sciver. Though Katherine Brunt bowled well but she could not get a wicket. Nevertheless, she effected the run out of Georgia Redmayne. Sophie Day was a bit expensive today. Alana King was brilliant with the ball as she picked up a wicket in her 4 overs and conceded 27 runs. Overall, a good show for them with the ball but lack of runs for them meant that their bowlers were playing the catch-up role.
Chasing a total of 152, Heat Women began on the right note. Grace Harris and Georgia Redmayne started positively but Harris departed early and out came their skipper, Jess Jonassen who started hammering the ball all around the park. Along with Georgia, she added 49 runs for the second wicket. Just when it looked that this partnership will take them home, Jonassen fell. After Georgia Redmayne fell too, there was a bit of lull as Heat lost wickets quickly. The momentum changed towards Melbourne Stars but Laura Harris ensured that they cross the line in the end.
Brisbane Heat's winning run continues. They win their 6th game on the trot. They are a happy bunch of players and why wouldn't they be happy? Their bowlers and batters both are contributing equally. A comprehensive victory for Heat.
