Right then, that’s it from this rain-affected contest but the action continues in the SA20, 2024. The next game will be played between Durban’s Super Giants and Pretoria Capitals at the Kingsmead in Durban on 30th January at 9 pm IST (3.30 pm GMT). But as you know, you can join us early for the build-up. Till then, goodbye and cheers!
The victorious skipper of Joburg Super Kings and also the Player Of The Match Faf du Plessis says they knew that they had time but at one point they thought it was slipping away and then to get a game and win it in such a manner makes him feels lucky. Mentions that there was extra bounce on the surface but it was skidding on and that made easier to bat on here on this track post rain. Credits Leus du Plooy for taking on the first over and setting up the tone right from the front. Closes by saying that not playing cricket for a while made him lose his rhythm but he is started to feel a lot better and time in the middle always help as he has the confidence that the ball striking is not all lost for him and such an inning will surely help him going ahead.
The losing skipper of MI Cape Town Kieron Pollard says the discussion was simply to maximise the two overs and they did that but they can't control the rain and that cost them the game. Adds that a steady start was key once they came out to bowl but with a shorter boundary on one side it would always be difficult with the start Joburg Super Kings got. Credits the Joburg Super Kings for winning this and batting tremendously to chase this down in such a manner. Closes by saying that they just have to regroup, take this on the chin and keep going.
Stay tuned for the presentation ...
Earlier in the day, MI Cape Town were unlucky with the rain as they did not get much time to recover from being 43 for 1 after 6 to a shortened game of just 8 overs. Skipper Kieron Pollard did well to put up a formidable total with a gem of a cameo scoring 33 off just 10 deliveries. Imran Tahir bowled well for Joburg Super Kings and picked up a couple while Lizaad Williams scalped a wicket as well.
It was always going to be a tough ask to bowl in such conditions but a lot better was expected of the MI Cape Town bowlers than what they produced. The bowlers were hammered away and taken to the cleaners by the opening pair of Joburg Super Kings and went wicketless. After 4th defeat on a trot, it gets trickier for MI Cape Town to now advance to the play-offs.
Chasing down more than 12 an over the Joburg Super Kings were off to a flying start, thanks to Leus du Plooy and Skipper Faf du Plessis as they took advantage of the powerplay and got 38 off the first 2 without losing a wicket and setting a tone for the run-chase. The dup went bonkers and smashed all the bowlers to every corner of the park and won convincingly inside 6 overs securing a bonus point as well. Skipper Faf du Plessis scored 50 off 20 deliveries while Leus du Plooy played a fantastic knock of 41 from 14 deliveries.
What a turn of events as at one point we thought we might not have a game and it all looked gloomy for Joburg Super Kings in particular but they ended the game with a commanding position in the table as they won this securing a Bonus Point. A comprehensive win by 10 wickets for Joburg Super Kings puts them 4th in the table.
