A really good bowling display by Oval Invincibles Women and they have finished on the right side of the result. Right from ball one, they were commanding and never let London Spirit Women off the hook. The skipper, Dane Van Niekerk was the pick of the lot, taking 3 wickets and bowling in a miserly manner. Tash Farrant was explosive too, as she ended with 2 to her name. Shabnim Ismail was very economical, even though she did not take a wicket. Mady Villiers had an outing to remember, with a wicket in her bag.
A comprehensive victory for Oval Invincibles Women as they have beaten London Spirit Women by 15 runs. The run chase never looked achievable as apart from Heather Knight, none of the other batters really stepped up. Chasing a total of 132, you need more than one batter to contribute, and even though the skipper of Spirit showed some 'spirit' and kept her team in the game, until the end, she alone could not cross the line. Danielle Gibson scored a few boundaries towards the end, but it proved too late. The lack of partnerships is what proved to be the Achilles heel for London Spirit Women and they lose their first game of the competition.
