Lahore Qalandars beat Islamabad United by 110 runs

Right then, that's all from this game. The Pakistan Super League 2023 action resumes on Wednesday, 01st March as Peshawar Zalmi take on Karachi Kings at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. That game will begin at 7.30 pm IST (2.00 pm GMT). As always, you can join us in advance for the build-up. Until then, take care and goodbye!
Shaheen Afridi, the skipper of Lahore Qalandars, says that they played good cricket overall. Adds that the batters stuck to the plans and did well for them. Mentions that they gave away too many runs yesterday and planned better to bowl a lot more dots today. Lauds Rashid Khan, David Wiese, and Sikandar Raza who got wickets in the middle and did their job. Closes by adding that the local players and internationals are doing well and says that he can’t be happier.
David Wiese is the Player of the Match. He says that there were cracks in the surface and the wicket was decent. Adds that there was more on offer for bowlers this evening than last game. Shares that the batting unit has fired in the last couple of games which has helped us to do our job well. Ends by saying that he is enjoying the responsibility and it is nice to help out the young guys in the team.
Islamabad United skipper Shadab Khan says that the pitch was a difficult one for the batters. Adds that they did not bowl well and it was a 170-180 pitch. Mentions that they want to continue the attacking approach. Says that sometimes they might get out for 100 but adds that they can also score over 200 with this approach. Adds that he wants to forget this game and move on from here. Closes by saying that he felt bad for the crowd that they got a one-sided game. Says that they will look to get better in the next game and come back strong.
Time for post-match presentation...
In their pursuit of 201, Islamabad United were off to a good start courtesy of Colin Munro and Rahmanullah Gurbaz. However, they lost both openers in quick succession which pegged them back in the chase. They failed to recover from those twin blows and kept slipping further in the chase. Islamabad United needed someone to steady the ship but no one was able to put his hand up and resurrect the innings. They need to forget this batting performance as quickly as possible and start afresh in the next game.
Rashid Khan is up for a chat. He says that it’s pretty hard to play back-to-back games. Adds that the guys have turned up and got a great win against a strong Islamabad United side. Mentions that he bowled a few bad balls in the previous game and was taken down. Adds that his batting came well today with a few helicopter shots and it entertained the crowd.
Earlier in the game, after opting to bat first, Lahore Qalandars were off to a flying start in the Powerplay courtesy of their openers. After the departure of the openers, Sam Billings and Abdullah Shafique got together and resurrected the innings. They did lose wickets in a clump during the middle overs but cameos from David Wiese, Sikandar Raza and Rashid Khan helped them finish well. This batting performance was backed up by the bowlers who were equally good helping Lahore Qalandars register their fourth win of the campaign.
This has been an exceptional bowling performance by the Lahore Qalandars. They have bowled out Islamabad United for a paltry total of 90 and by doing so, they have registered a victory by a massive margin of 110 runs. While defending 200, Islamabad United did not start well with the new ball and were put under the pump by the Islamabad United openers. However, Zaman Khan provided them with a much-needed breakthrough in his second over. Lahore Qalandars never looked back after that first scalp and kept chipping in with wickets at regular intervals. David Wiese broke the back of the Islamabad United batting unit by accounting for three wickets whereas Rashid Khan and Sikandar Raza took two wickets each.

OUT! LBW! It's all over for Islamabad United as they are bowled out for just 90 and lose by a massive margin of 110 runs. Raza bowls it fuller on the stumps. Abrar Ahmed plays down the wrong line and is stuck in front. A huge appeal from Sikandar Raza and the umpire gives it OUT. Abrar Ahmed goes for the review but in vain. Three reds and he has to walk back. Lahore Qalandars get a team hat-trick as Raza gets 2-in-2 to go along with the run-out. An exceptional performance by Lahore Qalandars.

OUT! BOWLED! Two-in-two for Sikandar Raza! Flatter and quicker on the stumps. Zeeshan Zameer stays back as the ball skids through his defense and clatters into the stump. Raza is delighted as they pick up their 9th and are roaring toward a massive win.

OUT! RUN OUT! Another one bites the dust! Short and slanting in on off by Sikandar Raza, Faheem Ashraf guides this one to short third man and calls Hasan Ali for a single. There was no run in it and Hussain Talat picks the ball cleanly and fires an accurate throw to Sam Billings at the striker's end who does the rest.
