India beat Bangladesh by an innings and 130 runs
So that is it from this game. India continue their dominance with a demolishing win over Bangladesh. They continue their unbeaten run in the World Test Championship. We are not done with the series as we now move to Kolkata for the first ever Day-Night Test match to be played by India. Kohli and co. will look to convert their red ball dominance into Pink ball as well. Bangladesh, on the other hand, will look to put on a better display and stun the home crowd by drawing the series. For his brilliant innings of 243, Mayank Agarwal has been named the Man of the Match. On being told that he has had this smile for a year now, Mayank smiles and says that he hopes that the smile continues for a longer period. Tells he practices but not much as they play the shorter formats as well. Agarwal feels proud to represent India. Says it is great to have someone who wants you to get more runs than himself as Kohli wanted him to get to a double ton when he reached 150 for the first time in Tests. On being asked whether he has had any practice with the pink ball, Mayanak informs they had three sessions of practice with Rahul Dravid.
Indian skipper, Virat Kohli says that it has been a clinical performance. Says that they played with 5 batters and it was a very professional performance. On his pace bowling options, Kohli says they are at the top of their game and feels they bowl excellently on any surface. Says that Bumrah is not here at the moment and when he joins it would look more lethal. On the records, Kohli says they have not focused on it and they are just looking to get the team as high as possible and inspire the up and coming Indian players. Tells when a young guy comes into the team he knows how important it is to get big runs and how difficult it is to get big runs so he just looks to lay the marker so that the new batters can keep their guard and focus on getting the runs while they are in the zones. On playing pink ball cricket next, Kohli tells he is very excited and proud to be the first Indian side to play the Day-Night Test.
Bangladesh skipper, Mominul Haque says that it was difficult as they won the toss and decided to bat first. On the positives, Mominul says that the bowling of Abu Jayed along with the performance of Rahim and Liton are the positives. Feels that it is a challenge for the top order to score some runs and realse the pressure on the middle order batsmen.

Ishant jokes and says that the other faster bowlers don't treat him as senior. Further adds that there is no difference between a senior and a junior as they try to make each other comfortable. Umesh says that his parents have got him here as they made him run and practice hard in his childhood and that is what he tries to use it here. Shami admits that they get tired but all the fast bowlers try to enjoy themselves as much as possible. Further adds that they also try to push each other for success. On Umesh's batting, Shami jokes that that that the boundaries are short in India for Umesh's power. On what his secret is of bowling so good, Shami goes on to say that he has full freedom from the coach and the captain to bowl however he is comfortable with and says that he focuses on line and length.

With a massive deficit, Bangladesh needed to their openers to fight it out but the opening pair of Kayes and Shadman failed to do that and were unable to hang out there for long. Just like the first innings, the top-order did not put up a fight and for a moment it looked like they would struggle to get into second session with any mainstay batters. But Mushfiqur Rahim hung around with Mahmudullah. Mahmudullah though could not fight for long. Liton and Rahim then counter-attacked the Indian bowlers. Mushfiqur then put up a fight with Mehidy Hasan but the task in hand was too much and Rahim's fighting 64 was not enough for Bangladesh to avoid an innings defeat.
After deciding to declare after an overnight lead of 343, the hosts started off with the ball in a magnificent fashion. The opening bowling pair of Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma got rid of the Bangladesh's openers. Shami then joined the party and what has become a norm, he was the pick of the bowler in the second innings. Mohammed Shami ended up with 4. Ashwin too was once again amongst the wickets. Picking up three. Umesh and Ishant had 2 and 1 respectively. All-in-all India were once again superb with the cherry in hand.
Comfortable win for India and they continue their dominance at home in the longest format of the game. They look unbeatable at the moment, especially at home. A win by an innings and 130 runs. That is a huge margin. No contest this really. It has been a landslide victory.

A session which belonged to Bangladesh but one would hardly feel that this changes the tide of the game. The visitors managed to score 131 runs in 32 overs and lost just two wickets. They have managed to reduce the deficit to 152 but will need to continue this fight. India were better with the overrate as the spinners bowled 21 overs but were not at their usual best but yet Ashwin managed to get into the wickets column on a pitch where the ball is seldom spinning. With just one session to play in the day after the break can Bangladesh force Day 4 of this Test or will India manage to wrap up this game today itself?

Mayank Agarwal is down for an interview with Deep Dasgupta. He says that letting go of the fear of failure made him change his mindset and after that, he got hungrier for runs. Adds that there have been times when he didn't get runs so he wants to make most of his batting form by scoring big. Further says that playing his first game in Melbourne was special and helping his side win the game was a great feeling. Adds that the plan was to build partnerships and once that happened, they looked to get quick runs. Says that he backs himself to hit the biggies. The Bangladesh bowlers gave everything out there but except for Jayed, no other bowler looked threatening. Their spinners were actually played out with a lot of ease. Hasan did take a wicket but he went for almost 5 runs per over. Ebadot bowled a lot of overs but only had one wicket to his name. A very tiring day for them and one which they would like to forget.
Today was all about Agarwal though! The Indian opener is enjoying a golden patch in his career, especially in the first innings of a Test match. He has consistently scored well in the first innings of a Test match but today was something special. The way he attacked, the ease with which he was batting was just brilliant. He was well supported by Rahane and then Jadeja. The former missed out on a well-deserved ton whereas Jadeja has remained unbeaten at the end of the day. Umesh Yadav too enjoyed himself with the bat as he walked out to the middle before Ashwin and hit the ball to all parts of the ground. Overall, they have made the Bangladesh players toil really hard in the field and the visitors will be mentally and physically drained.
WOW! What an entertaining half-hour of play did we witness in the end! Umesh Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja both have a smile as they walk off the field and rightly so. Hardly anything to talk about Bangladesh's batting. They won the toss but every batter struggled. Mushfiqur Rahim was the highest scorer but had India been at their usual self in the field, then that certainly would not have been the case. Liton and Mominul looked good but could not convert their starts. All-in-all the Bangla batsmen were completely decimated by the Indian bowlers and looked all over the place.
India have wrapped up Bangladesh for just 150. Brilliant bowling display from the hosts. They lost the toss but a look at this innings will not make you feel like that. After winning the toss and opting to bat, Bangladesh struggled to get going. Both their openers, Shadman and Kayes, struggled in the middle but it looked like they would somehow manage to survive the danger phase but that was not to be as Umesh and Ishant sent both the openers back to the pavilion. Mithun and Mominul then tried to steady the ship but the former could not last long. Rahim joined his skipper and though he has ridden his luck, he has managed to take his side to Lunch without any more casualties. The skipper has looked good and Bangladesh will be hoping that these two can build on their 32-run stand post Lunch and take the visitors to a good total.
No doubt to whom this session belonged to! The Indians have been in top gear and this session was an exhibition of how good their pace bowling attack is. All three pacers have bowled with venom and passion and their good work has been rewarded with one wicket each. Umesh and Ishant were excellent at the start while Shami and Ashwin too were good, not giving away any free runs.

Indian skipper, Virat Kohli says that the pitch has a bit of grass on it and adds that historically it is suited to bowl first. Further adds that they are playing 3 seamers and this will help them. Tells they wanted to bowl first and feels the best part to bat on here will be after the first session on Day 2. Further tells they are playing 2 spinners so they are covered for the third innings as well. On his team changes, Virat informs that Shahbaz Nadeem is not a part of the squad and Ishant Sharma has replaced him.
Bangladesh skipper, Mominul Haque says that it looks a good pitch for batting and hence the decision. Further says that the pitch will do something in the fourth innings. Adds that it's an honour for him to lead his country. Tells that they are playing with seven batsmen and four bowlers.
Toss - The two captains are out in the middle for the toss. Up goes the coin and it comes down in Bangladesh's favour. They choose to bat first.
Pitch report - Murali Kartik is down for the pitch report. He says that it is a red soil wicket. He is then joined by Sunil Gavaskar who says that it is a very good surface. Further adds that the new-ball bowlers will enjoy bowling here. Adds that the pitch will get slower but not from Day 1. Mentions that there is a bit of moisture and it will assist the seamers early on. Further goes on to say that the team winning the toss will look to bat first.
Hello and a warm welcome to the coverage of the first Test between India and Bangladesh. The Bangla tigers are facing a tough challenge against a very good Indian side. Under a new captain, Mominul Haque, the visitors would hope for a good performance in order to have any chance to beat this strong Indian side. They are without their key players as Tamim Iqbal ruled himself out while Shakib Al Hasan has been banned from all forms of cricket. Although, the odds are heavily in favour of the hosts, the Bangla Tigers are capable of putting in a surprise. India, on the other hand, have been dominant in the ICC Test championship so far beating the West Indies and the Proteas in their previous assignments. They have never lost a Test match to Bangladesh and would hope to continue that run in this series as well. Their bowling has worked wonders and is in red-hot form at the moment.
