Okay. So we are done with this game then. Actually, we should have been taking you directly over to Carrara for the clash between Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Stars but rain and then a wet outfield delayed proceedings over there. However, we hear that the Bat Flip is done and Glenn Maxwell has elected to chase. Hop in there and get all the action.
NATHAN MCANDREW HAS BEEN NAMED THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH. McAndrew says that it is an impressive win. Details that he followed a simple game plan, to just run in and bowl fast. On the injury to Daniel Sams, McAndrew says that everyone took the onus upon themselves to step up. On the next clash of the Thunder against the Perth Scorchers, Nathan expects Perth to be daunting in front of their home crowd and predicts it to be a cracking Sunday afternoon contest.
Earlier, the Thunder lost their way after a brilliant opening stand. They slipped to 76/4 from 59/0 but cameos from Alex Ross and Ben Cutting lifted them close to 170. That gave the total more than a respectable look. D'Arcy Short was an unlikely hero for the Hurricanes, picking up 3 wickets.
The Thunder were excellent with the ball. Is there any other team which is a better bowling unit than this one? Perhaps, the Brisbane Heat but they have not been that consistent. They were without Daniel Sams for this encounter and from what coach Shane Bond said, he will not play till their game against Perth Scorchers is done on Sunday. But that just lifted the other bowlers. Everyone stepped up and bowled their heart out, not quite able to single out any one individual.
168 looked to be a chaseable score on this deck and the Hurricanes began well too. McDermott and Short set up a 36-run opening stand but as was the case with the Thunder, once the Powerplay was done, there was less power and less pace. Hobart tried well to consolidate the quick wickets of the openers in the span of 5 balls, with a 48-run stand between Handscomb and Malan, but once that was broken with Green getting rid of the Englishman, it was a freefall. Hobart never recovered after that, slipping from 91/2 to 117/8.
Impressive win by the Thunder. They are a terrific unit, especially in the bowling department and have staked their claim for the finals. They jump to the top of the table, just over the other team from Sydney, the Sixers.
