That's all from this game! Adelaide Strikers open their account in this tournament while Hobart suffer their first loss in the tournament. On Wednesday, 16th December 2020, Melbourne Stars go up against Perth Scorchers. That match will begin at 1915 local (0815 GMT). Join us for that. Until then, cheers and take care.
Peter Siddle, the MAN OF THE MATCH, says that they were disappointed after the first game but is pleased that they have now won their first game of the season. Adds that they have improved from their previous game but there are still areas where they need to work upon. Says that with Carey back, he was relieved of the captaincy pressure and that helped him bowl better.
Earlier, in the game, Siddle's 5-fer helped the Strikers restrict the Hurricanes to just 146. Only Ingram and McDermott were able to stitch a partnership. Once they fell, they fell like a pack of cards and posted a less than par score on the wicket. In the end, it did not prove to be enough as they were defeated by 5 wickets.
The bowling from Hobart was not bad but the target was too low to defend. They started well with Faulkner sending Phillip Salt early. They picked up another in quick succession and they might have thought that they are in with a chance but Alex Carey and Jake Weatherald had other ideas. Scott Boland and James Faulkner bowled well but it was not enough to stop the Strikers. Overall, it was a disappointing performance.
It was not all rosy for Adelaide Strikers though as they lost 2 wickets in quick succession at the start but that's when the skipper, Alex Carey and Jake Weatherald took matters into their own hands. They both stitched a 107-run stand and that killed any hope of a Hurricane win. Carey fell towards the end but Weatherald stayed till the end and finished things off. They lost a few wickets in the last two overs but that was too late. Overall, it was a very good performance.
An easy win for Adelaide Strikers in the end! Yes, there were a few hiccups in the end but the result was never in doubt. Adelaide Strikers were just brilliant and they have taken their revenge from their last meeting in this tournament. Alex Carey will be a very happy man.

And here's the winning run! Gibson is the man who hits it. A fuller ball on middle, Gibson flicks it through square leg and takes the winning run! Adelaide Strikers win by 5 wickets.
Ryan Gibson comes out to bat.

OUT! CAUGHT! Second wicket in the over! What is happening? Short goes for a first-ball duck. A fullish ball around middle, Short looks to flick but like Wells he too fails to get any timing. Ends up chipping it straight to mid on where David makes no mistake.

SCORES LEVEL! Short ball on middle, Weatherald pulls it towards deep square leg for a single.
Matthew Short is the next man in.

OUT! CAUGHT! Wells falls. Good catch from David going back. A length ball around middle, Wells looks to deposit it over long on but mistimes it. The man from mid on, David, runs back and takes the catch easily. Hardly got any timing there did Wells.
There is no choice but to take the Power Surge with two overs to go. Just 2 needed for Adelaide Strikers.

Appeal for LBW but turned down. A length ball around middle and leg, Weatherald looks to flick but misses to get rapped on the pad. Boland appeals but nothing from the umpire. Maybe that was going over. End of a top over and spell from Boland but it won't help his side much.

A single now! Chance for Weatherald to finish the game on the last ball. A slower length ball around off, Wells looks to defend but gets an inside edge on the pad. The ball rolls towards the off side and they sneak a single.

Short and just outside off, Wells punches but finds the point fielder.

Shortish and just outside off, Weatherald runs it down to third man and gets to the other end.
