Tells that she had to spend time in the middle and build partnerships to set up a platform in the end. She thinks she got a few starts on the way, and it was nice to make a contribution today and build on that. Informs that she is disappointed that she didn't finish a couple games earlier. Tells that Brunt came in with a lot of energy and even was re-energized. Adds that she is having a blast, and it's sometimes difficult to recall that you're playing in the World Cup and fulfilling a childhood dream. Stay tuned for the presentation...
A top-class performance with the ball by England. England took some time to draw the first blood. Although, they never let the batters score freely. They managed to keep Bangladesh on the back foot throughout the innings. Sophie Ecclestone picked up two wickets to get rid of the opening pair. Rest of the bowlers also chipped in well by bowling consistent dot deliveries. Later, the wickets came in at regular intervals and eventually England managed to get over the line. It were the spinners who did the trick for England, as Sophie Ecclestone and Charlotte Dean ended up with three wickets apiece.
Bangladesh never got going in the chase! It was a slow start by the openers, as they failed to keep the runs ticking. The opening stand was broken in the 18th over with the wicket of Sharmin Akhter. Soon, Shamima Sultana followed suit. Both the openers faced 114 balls in total. They did manage to survive but could not move the scoreboard in the right direction. Sultana and Hoque stitched a stand on 22 runs and could not get their side to safer shores as Hoque was sent back early. Later, the batters could not apply themselves and failed to score at a brisk rate. In the end, they lost the game by 100 runs.
England came into this game with only one aim. That was to win their last round robin game with a good margin, and they did so convincingly. Bangladesh could not put up a solid performance with the blade. They head back home with a loss in their final fixture, although they take a lot of learning with them.
