Man of the Match
Dimuth Karunaratne
Commentry
So that’s it from this game! All to play for in the second Test then as the winner takes it all. That begins on the 29th of this month at 1000 local (0430 GMT). Till then, take care and goodbye!
Dimuth Karunaratne, Sri Lankan skipper and MAN OF THE MATCH, says he had a very hard time in the Windies and he was struggling earlier on but once he got a start, he felt good. States he felt the wicket will have good pace and bounce but the bowlers tried their heart out but the Bangladesh batters batted really well. Adds there was nothing in the wicket for the bowlers. Adds they tried their best and he felt they could have gotten something on this track but they did not.
Mominul Haque, Bangladesh skipper, says he is very pleased and everyone contributed, the batting was set up by Tamim and later on Rahim and Liton did very well. States the bowlers too tried their best. Mentions this will help in the second Test. Adds it depends on the mentality about how you feel and you have to adjust in the current circumstances. Ends by saying he is happy to contribute for the side.
Sri Lanka then had just the around 2 sessions to bowl the visitors out for a very low score. Lakmal did start off well by taking two early but a solid innings from Tamim and rain washing out the last session ensured it ends in a draw.
They batted for over two days before declaring and in reply, Sri Lanka did almost the same. They too kept on batting and batting and batting for another two days and a little more. Taking a lead of above 100 courtesy a double ton from their skipper and a big hundred from Dhananjaya.
The wicket had nothing in it for the bowlers right from Day 1! It was a batting paradise which both the sides feasted on. Bangladesh scored a massive score after electing to bat. Contributions from quite a few batters like Tamim, Shanto and Haque who scored tons took Bangladesh over 500.
The inevitable has happened! THE DAY HAS BEEN CALLED OFF! So, the game ends in a draw! That was quite obvious when play started. Just the two sessions of cricket on Day 5 as the last one was washed away.
UPDATE- (1544 local) It continues to rain here! The chances of resumption looks very bleak.
We should have gotten underway by now but there is a persistent drizzle so there's a delay.
... Day 5, Session 3 ...
Nothing left to play for in this Test now. Tamim will probably looking to get his ton and then keep batting. Lanka on the other hand will hope they can get a few wickets. Do join us for the last session.
A good session in the end for Bangladesh! It did not start all that well for them though as Lakmal got two early. Sri Lanka had a sniff then but Tamim played a counter-attacking innings along with Haque and blew away all the hopes that were built with those early wickets.
