Australia Women beat Bangladesh Women by 86 runs

What does Friday hold in store? South Africa taking on Thailand at 3 pm local (0400 GMT), followed by the England-Pakistan clash at 7 pm local (0800 GMT). Join us on 28th February, 2020 for the Friday double header. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
That is it for the double header from Thursday. Australia manage to strut their stuff after a slow start to the tournament and have pumped up a net run rate of 1.23, better than any team in the group. But they have two wins. They need to win to go through and that victory has to come against New Zealand, which is a possible quarter-final.
Victorious Australian skipper, Meg Lanning, says that it was a good all-round performance, set right from the first ball. Praises the openers and then the bowlers. Admits that the Aussies wanted to come out and take the game to the opposition. On two instances of fielders clutching shoulders in the field, Meg smiles and says that she has not met the doctor yet, so hopes that everything is fine. On a possible quarter-final clash against New Zealand, Lanning says that they are a terrific opponent, playing some good cricket and is eager to play the game. States that is all World Cups are all about.
Bangladesh captain, Salma Khatun, says that Australia are a very good team with plenty of power-hitting batters. Rues her bowlers for not bowling well. Admits that 190 was a big target. On being hit around the park, Salma says that her bowlers bowled way too short while Australia were accurate on lines and lengths. Is eager to play New Zealand and Sri Lanka and is not too perturbed with two losses on the trot.
ALYSSA HEALY HAS BEEN NAMED THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH. She says that they wanted to get on top of the bowling and they were not doing that in the earlier games. Adds that they practiced a lot in the nets and the practice paid off. Says that they figured out to which area the wind is blowing and they made full use of that.
Perfect practice game for Australia. It was not at all dissimilar to a warm-up game and the openers raked up confident half centuries, setting up their country's best opening stand in T20Is. And then, with the ball, barring one dropped catch from Ashleigh Gardner, Meg Lanning ensured that her team was performing with precision. Megan Schutt smiled her way to three wickets while Jess Jonassen got two towards the end. Disappointing for Bangladesh. Given the way they fought against India, one would have expected a better show. Please stay tuned for the presentation...
An 86-run drubbing for Bangladesh. Their pity ends. It was as if they never turned up for this game. They were listless in the field and chasing 190, they just gave up.

That is it! Australia have won the game! Floated on middle, Fahima flicks it to the deep mid-wicket region for a single. AUSTRALIA WOMEN WIN BY 86 RUNS.

OUT! RUN OUT! Yes, it is a team hat-trick and Tul Kubra is out of his crease. Floated on off, Tul Kubra drives it to the cover region and takes off for a single. Meg Lanning collects the ball and throws it to Jonassen. Jess whips the bails off and the third umpire is called for. The replays roll in and they show that Tul Kubra was out of her crease.
Another run out appeal! Is this a team hat-trick? Referred upstairs. Yup. 3 wickets in 3 balls for Australia.
Khadija Tul Kubra walks in at number 10, replacing Salma Khatun.

OUT! RUN OUT! The skipper has been stranded on the middle of the pitch. Comedy of the errors. Fullish on the pads. Salma looks to flick but gets hit on the pads. There is an appeal for LBW made but nothing from the umpire. The ball goes to point. Salma wants the run and but the non-striker is not interested. Salma waits in the middle of the pitch as Delissa Kimmince, the substitute, throws it to the keeper, who whips the bails off. She is nowhere in the picture.
Salma Khatun is the next batter in.

NOT OUT! The ball has hit the ground The fielder was not confident and the on-field umpires have taken it upstairs. Short ball on middle, Khatun pulls it to mid-wicket where Sutherland dives forward to take the catch. She gets up and is not confident that she has taken it cleanly. The on-field umpires take it upstairs after a discussion. The replays roll in and they show that the ball has bounced just in front.
That is a stinger! Or not? The fielder herself shakes her head, or perhaps she says she is not sure, so the umpires refer it upstairs. The soft signal is NOT OUT. Interestingly, Fahima started to walk but then was stopped. Here come the replays. Seems like the ball has bounced just in front of Annabel Sutherland.

Almost a wicket first ball. Perry starts with a length ball around off, Sultana looks to defend but it takes the inside edge and goes towards the leg side.
We are back for the chase! The Australian players make their way out to the middle in defense of 189. Shamima Sultana and Murshida Khatun follow them out. Ellyse Perry will start with the ball.
190 to win then. The pitch is flat as a pancake but expect the Australian bowlers to be much better than the Bangladesh ones. And yes, fielding should be a good thing to watch too. Stay tuned.
Beth Mooney is down for an interview with Lisa Sthalekar. Mooney says that she loves playing at this ground. Adds that they lost their way in the middle as they tried to overhit the ball. Goes onto say that they are good players of spin and it is all in the mindset. Further says that she likes playing with Healy as she takes the pressure off.
A flat, very flat pitch. But that cannot be an excuse for poor bowling or fielding. Bangladesh simply did not turn up. Rumana Ahmed was the pick of the bowlers, but at an economy of 7.5.
Just the kind of game Healy and Mooney wanted. They were under the pump, after failing against India and Sri Lanka. But tonight, they came out all guns blazing, with plenty of runs from the opposition. Their 151-run stand is the best for Australia for the opening wicket in T20Is, second best ever in World Cups in this criteria and the 6th best first-wicket stand ever in Women's T20Is. Both batters played freely, swinging through the line, getting to the pitch of the ball. Both made a score in the region of the 80s but each would be happy with the returns. Towards the end, Ashleigh Gardner's cameo helped the home side a bit.
Make hay while the sun shines, is the statement. Australia made hay after the sun was set. They are playing Bangladesh for the first time in Women's T20Is and were given a pretty courteous welcome. Full tosses, looseners, dropped catches, misfields and what not. It was a buffet. In fact, Australia might be cursing themselves for not getting 200 on this deck and with such a bowling display.

NOT OUT! Missing the leg stump by a big margin! Slower full delivery down the leg side. Gardner is early into the shot as she looks to flick. She misses and gets hit on the pads. The Bangladesh players appeal but the umpire shakes his head. They opt for the review. The Ultra Edge shows that there is no bat on it and the Ball Tracker then rolls in which shows that is missing the leg stump. The ball rolls to the off side and the batters steal a leg bye. AUSTRALIA FINISH ON 189/1.
