Right then. An exciting day of cricket comes to an end. Both the matches were high-scoring games and what more can you expect of a doubleheader. The Big Bash league continues on 12th December, Sunday at 1915 local (0815 GMT). As you all know you can join us early for the build-up. Till then, goodbye and take care!
Colin Munro, wins the Man of the Match award for his incredible effort with the blade. He says they spoke about the fielding and worked on it a lot harder coming into this game and the result was amazing. Adds that it is awesome coming back to the same team. He aims to play cricket and not worry about the outcome right now. Mentions, they will try to be adaptable and get used to the conditions as per the requirements. Mentions, after what happened last year against Sixers, they just aim to be better side in the new season.
Perth Scorchers bowlers were quite disciplined in their role and kept chipping in with wickets at regular intervals. But Jason Behrendorff was the pick of the bowlers, bowling well with the new ball and then executing his skills perfectly at the death. The spinners were brilliant too and that allowed pressure to build up and the final blow was delivered by Andrew Tye as he took three wickets in one over in Power Surge. Overall a brilliant performance and they will be delighted that they have backed up a superb century earlier in the day by Colin Munro by a strong bowling performance.
Adelaide Strikers were in the game right till the 15th over and just like Munro held one end up for Perth Scorchers, it was Matthew Short for Adelaide Strikers for the majority of the innings. He scored 63 off 47 balls but the innings never really took off the way they wanted and it was the innings of Short that kept them in the hunt. Thomas Kelly came in and started striking the ball from the word go but it was not enough at the end of the day as he holed out. The Power Surge was taken in the 16th over to boost their chase but sadly it went the other way round and completely killed their chase.
Power Surge was introduced in Big Bash to make things more interesting and it has been certainly doing its job. Adelaide strikers needed 70 from five overs when they took the Power Surge and ended up losing four wickets in those two overs. The game was done and dusted in flash after that as Adelaide Strikers were bundled out for 146. So it is Perth Scorchers that have registered a victory by 49 runs!
