Right then, that's all from this entertaining game. We're not done yet as you already know. Melbourne Stars are facing Sydney Sixers in a battle of survival and their match is about to begin. Please switch tabs and follow the action. Cheers!
ZAK EVANS IS THE MAN OF THE MATCH! Says that he was trying to finish off the season for the team with a win and is pretty happy with the way he bowled today. Also mentions that the team gelled up really nicely despite not making to the finals. On giving the Stars a chance, Zak replies that although they are rivals, it is good that they have given them a sniff but the Stars would have to win their game first to proceed through to the finals.
Melbourne Renegades will be relieved to end their sorry campaign on a brighter note. Their batting wasn't up the mark but some great work from Beau Webster and Mackenzie Harvey helped them to a challenging total. In the first 10 overs with the ball, they appeared to be behind the 8-ball but soon after that put a good squeeze on the scoring rate. Beau Webster, Peter Hatzoglou and Imad Wasim applied the choke and Zak Evans did the maximum damage with a 5-wicket haul. A satisfying win for them!
82 needed off 60 balls with 8 wickets in hand and the Hurricanes somehow missed the bus to the finals. There was a lack of intent in the partnership between Dawid Malan and D'Arcy Short, and from there on, the pressure kept on mounting. Both lost their wickets too to compound the agony and eventually, the task turned out to be a little too much for the other batters.
An outstanding win for the Melbourne Renegades and they have done a big favour on their arch-rivals, Melbourne Stars! Hobart Hurricanes will be deeply disappointed after squandering a great chance to seal their fate. They would be wondering where they lost this match. All was going well for them at the halfway mark in the run chase as they took the Bash Boost point but from there on, their chase just nosedived.
