The recent match between South Africa and the Netherlands has been discussed for a number of reasons. When the spinner Keshav Maharaj entered the batting order, it was one of the same talking topics.
In game 15 of the competition, the 33-year-old assumed center stage and many spectators’ attention was drawn to the ‘Om’ emblem on his bat. Since Keshav Maharaj is of Indian descent, this is not the first time he has been seen standing up for his culture and religion.

Netherlands defeats South Africa in an unexpected victory.
The Netherlands and South Africa squared off in game 15 of the ODI World Cup 2023 at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala. Vikramjit Singh and Max O’Dowd, the Netherlands’ openers, only managed to score two and 18 runs, respectively, as the team came out to bat first in the match.
The Netherlands was able to register a total of 245 runs on the board in the first innings thanks in part to the knock of Scott Edwards, who added 78 runs to the scoreboard after the top-order collapsed.
The Proteas’ top wicket-takers were Lungi Ngidi, Marco Jansen, and Kagiso Rabada, who each took two wickets, while Gerald Coetzee and Keshav Maharaj each claimed one.
South Africa sought to continue its winning streak by pursuing the objective, but the Netherlands had other ideas. As the top-order crumbled, the openers Temba Bavuma and Quinton de Kock scored 16 and 20 runs, respectively. The player who scored the most runs, David Miller, did so with 43 in 52 pitches.
The Proteas were bowled out for 207 runs as the Netherlands pulled off the seemingly impossible to win the match by 38 runs.
