Batting coach Michael Hussey discussed the team’s mentality and their dedication to moving the game forward after the game.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) trounced Gujarat Titans in a relatively one-sided match by 63 runs to begin the 2024 season with the same aggressive strategy that helped them succeed the previous year.
“It’s definitely been a directive from Fleming to keep pushing the game forward,” Hussey said after CSK defeated Gujarat Titans with a commanding score of 206/6, as reported by Cricbuzz.
The impact player rule, which gives teams more resources, is the reason behind CSK’s change in batting strategy. CSK has great depth in their lineup, with players like MS Dhoni batting at number eight, giving top-order batsmen the confidence to play positively without worrying about being criticised.
“It’s absurd that MSD is at position 8. Additionally, MSD is hitting quite good right now. The players further up the order, if they’re undecided, should go in the good direction since we have an abundance of resources at our disposal. The captain and the coaches will undoubtedly support them, Hussey continued.
“We would rather you attempt to advance the game as far as you can; if you make mistakes in the process, that’s okay; you won’t ever face criticism for it. Flem talks about playing fast,” Hussey clarified, illuminating the team’s mentality.
Last season, Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad set the tone in the Power Play overs, demonstrating CSK’s batting ability. The middle-order batsmen for the squad, Shivam Dube and Ajinkya Rahane, took advantage of the good start by confidently playing risky cricket.
It’s been amazing to see Rachin: Michael Hussey
The new addition to CSK, Rachin Ravindra, has fit right in with the team’s aggressive mentality. Hussey commended Ravindra for his versatility and optimistic outlook, which were demonstrated by his strong performances against the Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
He’s off to a terrific start. It has been amazing to observe him. Hussey noted Ravindra’s eagerness and talent, saying, “He’s just come here, full of energy, just wants to learn so much and make a positive impact on the team environment.”
He’s just having fun with it. He is attempting to learn as much as he can, and he also takes great pleasure in the large number of people in this place. His confidence seemed to have increased after he made a few strong strokes early on, leading him to believe that he could compete on this stage, and he has continued to progress ever since. Hussey continued, “I believe he’s gone out there with a clear mind and a nice positive attitude.”
