In Sunday, April 21, at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Match 36 of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024), bouncing back to their winning ways. With captain Shreyas Iyer topping the score with 50 (36), KKR amassed a massive 222/6 in their stipulated 20 overs after being put in to bat first.
With half-centuries from Will Jacks and Rajat Patidar, the RCB in reply came dangerously close to reaching the goal, but they were ultimately unsuccessful by one run, ending their innings at 222/6 in their 20 overs. After their victory, KKR moved up to the second position on the standings, having gained ten points from five wins out of seven games. Conversely, with only one victory out of eight games and two points overall, RCB managed to hold the bottom rank in the points table.

Here are some of the game’s best moments:
1. Philip Salt fires KKR into a fiery start
Taking full advantage of the powerplay by going after the bowlers, the English opener once again got his team off to a blistering start. Salt helped KKR break the 50-run threshold in just four overs with a stunning 48 from just 14 balls, aided by seven fours and three sixes.

2. With their century-long alliance, Will Jacks and Rajat Patidar put RCB in the driver’s seat.
With barely 35 runs scored, they lost their opening pair, Virat Kohli (18 off 7) and Faf du Plessis (7 off 7). By taking matters into their own hands, Jacks and Patidar managed to bring the necessary run rate under 100 by engaging in a tremendous 102-run standoff off 48 balls for the third wicket. Patidar hit a stunning 52 off 23 balls, while Jacks scored 55 off 32.

3. Andre Russell uses two consecutive goals to put KKR back in the contest.
Russell ensured he left his mark with the ball after failing to score runs with the bat, bringing his team back into the game with a couple of strikes in the 12th over. In a single over, Russell dismissed both set batsmen, Jacks and Patidar, by getting them both caught out. In the penultimate over, when KKR was about to lose the match, he also claimed the crucial wicket of Dinesh Karthik (25 off 18).
