The Prime Minister’s XI and the Indian men’s squad will square off at Manuka Oval in Canberra from Saturday, November 30, to Sunday, December 1, 2024, adding even more excitement to Australia’s enormous impending summer of international cricket.
Prior to the Day Night Test at Adelaide Oval, which starts on Friday, December 6, 2024, the two-day, day-night match will give India’s squad a vital chance to practise playing under lights with the pink Kookaburra ball.
There has never been a closer friendship or partnership between Australia and India, according to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. Being able to celebrate the shared passion of cricket in both of our countries by standing next to Prime Minister Modi during the Fourth Test in Ahmedabad last year was an incredible privilege.
It will be exciting to watch the PM’s XI take on the Indian squad in Canberra because I’ve enjoyed watching players like Sunil Gavaskar, Anil Kumble, and Sachin Tendulkar throughout the years. To talk about choosing the squad, I’m excited to meet with the National Selectors,” Prime Minister Albanese continued.
Along with adding to the immense enthusiasm surrounding the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Series, the 2024 Prime Minister’s XI encounter will be a celebration of Australia and India’s longstanding cricket relations, which underlie our broader bilateral economic, cultural, and communal links.
For the first time in twenty years, India is playing against the Prime Minister’s XI for the fourth time.
The current men’s national coach Andrew McDonald headed a team that played against an Indian team led by Rahul Dravid in the 2004 Prime Minister’s XI match.
The highly anticipated Indian men’s and women’s teams will play at nine different locations across Australia during the summer, making this the biggest Indian summer ever confirmed by the match.
The CA Chair of Selectors, George Bailey, and Selector Tony Dodemaide will meet with the Prime Minister, the Hon. Anthony Albanese MP, soon to talk about choosing the team.
