Neeraj Chopra, who is currently competing in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, won India’s first silver medal on a day of great delight. Chopra won the silver medal with his season’s best throw of 89.45 meters, falling short of Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem for first place.
92.97 meters was the Olympic record that Nadeem established on his second try at winning the gold. He is now the only Pakistani to win an Olympic gold medal on his own. Olympian Andreas Thorkildsen of Norway set the previous record in 2008 in Beijing, with a time of 90.57. Nadeem shattered that mark.
Additionally, with a throw of 88.54 meters, Anderson Peters of Grenada won the bronze medal. After taking home the gold medal at the 2020 Olympics, Neeraj Chopra was unable to retain his title. Additionally, one of the top favourites in 2024 was Neeraj Chopra.
Though the 26-year-old athlete only managed to secure a silver medal, there was no shortage of admiration for him. Neeraj Chopra came forward following the event to share his feelings on taking home the silver medal. Neeraj gave Nadeem his congratulations for taking home the gold.
“Ever since we started competing in 2016, this is the first time I have fallen short versus Arshad. However, Arshad deserves recognition for his hard work; he outperformed me over the night. “Congratulations to him,” the Hindustan Times cited Neeraj Chopra as saying.
